Fat, slow boxers will not be very appealing on TV for anybody. Also, those undefeated protected fighters like Karmazin, Chapman, etc. will not sign up to be on something that is so high risk. How great would it be if they actually got all those undefeated HW's and jokes like Mollo and Walker to fight knock each other silly though.. 160-175 seems to be the best for this show. The fighters are big athletes that appeal to viewers and at that weight they have to be in good shape. Also, they generally have pretty good handspeed, power, and workrates. In the lighter divisions there are less power punchers and in the higher division there are slower, out of shape fighters that don't fire a lot of punches.
Yes, but the general public likes to see large men hit each other. The HW division offers that. Personally I would go with Cruiserweights. Sizable, but generally in better condition then the Heavys.
So do I, but would the American public by it? Wouldn't they say: what are those weedy guys doing on my TV?
i think a cruiserweight contender would be explosive...it'll look like old school heavyweight ****...
I agree - it's the highest wait they could get away with without putting everyone to sleep...let's remember that most of these guys that appear on the show aren't professional athletes and are not that fit/fast in the first place...
40 year olds aren't contenders.... HWs is a decent idea, if they can actually get enough good ones together. Problem is that a lot of them are just very protected, and ther others don't speak English, so I can't see the talent pool of a HW Contender being very high. I suspect the best fighters would end up being Mike Mollo/Travis Walker types.
