Anyone else dissapointed with the line up for this? No real 'contenders' or any young up coming fighters. And from a UK point of view would like to have seen a Brit boxer. Surely Herbie Hide would have been worth a call!

    • Mike Alexander (34, Columbus, Ohio, 12-2, 8 KOs)
    • Felix Cora Jr. (28, Galveston, Texas, 18-2-2, 9 KOs)
    • Ryan Coyne (26, St. Louis, 9-0, 3 KOs)
    • Ehinomen "Hino" Ehikhamenor (28, Queens, N.Y., 12-3-0, 7 KOs)
    • Deon Elam (28, Van Nuys, Calif., 9-0-0, 5 KOs)
    • Alfredo Escalera Jr. (28, San Juan, Puerto Rico, 15-1-1, 11 KOs)
    • Tim Flamos (41, Brockton, Mass., 20-4-1, 8 KOs)
    • Richard Gingras (27, Claremont, N.H., 9-1-0, 5 KOs)
    • Joell Godfrey (27, East St. Louis, Ill., 9-0-1, 5 KOs)
    • Rico Hoye (33, Detroit, 20-2, 15 KOs)
    • Akinyemi "AK" Laleye (27, Las Vegas, 10-1, 5 KOs)
    • Troy Ross (33, Toronto, 17-1, 12 KOs)
    • Jon Schneider (29, Yonkers, N.Y., 7-2-1, 5 KOs)
    • Lawrence Tauasa (29, Sydney, Australia, 30-5-1, 17 KOs)
    • Erick Vega (29, Phoenix, 8-2-1, 6 KOs)
    • Darnell "Ding-A-Ling Man" Wilson (33, Takoma Park, Md., 23-7-3, 20 KOs)

    Ding mans in there!

As for Herbie, he is close to a WBC title fight at Cruiser, he is no longer a heavyweight.

I'm disappointed as well. I will still watch though. Not to thrilled with the show moving to Versus either because the production value of their boxing shows is normally about equal to what I can do with a handheld camera and mike. But, at least Versus is still bringing us boxing when no one else seems to want to.

Ding and Cora, Jr. are the favorites in my mind. Rico Hoye is a shot light heavyweight who couldn't stand up to Diacanu's shots, much less punches from Ding.

Ding and Cora have both been on the world stage and only lost to top guys. He didn't look good against Godfrey, but I still think with his experience he's better than Hoye and is at least a legit Cruiser top 20 guy.

Have seen Ehikeminor a few times, strong but very limited. Troy Ross is no good.

No idea about any of these other guys.

Kind of a shame when you consider good fighters like Aaron Williams, Eric Davis, Jon Banks and a whole slew of up-and-coming Euros (Yoan Pablo Hernandez, Alexander Frenkel, etc. etc.) would have made this show much more interesting.

I love Ding and will be rooting hard for him (odd to think since the fights already happened), but I think he's probably out in the first round of fights, possibly the next round. It's not that I don't believe in Ding, but rather don't think his style is meant for success on The Contender. He doesn't have enough rounds to wear a guy down and catch him late for the KO.

Hey at least it is an attempt to bring boxing to the people outside of the boxing world. I think what they are going on is the first season where they found fighters with descent records, but mainly the story to go with it, and camera friendly. A guy from my gym tried out he said the workout he was asked to do was normal, but then he felt like he was on an interview and blew it. Either way just as long as I am not getting another mma show thrown at me that is fine by me. I just hope the producers don't try to take a piece out of Spike's ultimate fighter and try to act like unprofessional idiots just because it appeals to the 13 yr. old or the moron at the bar every night who thinks he is a cage fighter. Me personally and anyone who knows most Professiona boxer we do not typically act like complete idiots, now I didn't say all boxer, but one's who are serious about getting there goals accomplished typically go about there business, maybe with a few snags along the way but nothing to serious. One last thing it is the heavyweight divsion correct? If so why? why? why? this is the division until we get some real athletes is the one that is killing boxing we should stick with what is in the public eye and what everyone wants to see the 147lb to 160lb divisions not only would the fights be more excting to watch but I am sure there are a ton more prospects out there than the good old heavies. Either way thankyou V.S. for taking a shot and realizing boxing will break back threw the door it just needs to be throwen in your face as much as mma.:thumbsup
