.............I just finished rewatching Boza-Chacon II and while Bobby of course garnered the majority of the accolades for his guts and desire (not to mention the decision, which I'm still not sure he deserved), I also marvel at the courage of the Englishman via Uganda. I included a clip here from late in that fight, where Chacon's face was almost torn off; they had nearly stopped the fight several times by then, but relented to Chacon's pleas to let it go. These final two rounds show Boza on failing legs, yet determined to continue chugging forward to make the fight. His refusal to back off is as big a testimony to his courage as Chacon's continuing is to his own. [YT]QgBK3oQfDqQ&feature=related[/YT] Boza was a guaranteed good fight in the early-mid-80's. If you saw a fight of his listed in the TV Guide, you tuned in. It was "Must See TV" before the term was coined. An aggressive, hard punching action fighter, he had just enough vulnerability to make things dodgy for himself time after time. He was the perfect foil to his many rivals in the exciting 130-pound class at the time; Chacon, Navarette, Limon.........the four of them had one hell of a round-robin tournament going for a couple years. Once Arguello moved up, it left a nice power vacuum at 130, and fans were treated to some amazing action. Any fond memories of this classy, exciting fighter?
One of my favorite fighters......in my opinion, on his best night he would've been trouble for most 130 pounders.......based on what I've seen, he had great boxing ability, but got drawn into a brawl WAY too much than he should've.....definitely made for exciting viewing, but maybe not the smartest thing overall for him......his fight with Guy Villegas is arguably the most overlooked action fight of all time!
..............That was a great fight; I remember Villegas propping Boza's head up with his left glove and popping him with the right, but Boza was unfazed by the tactics and stormed back to eviscerate him in the 7th.
Boza was one of my five favourite fighters at one time. I think he too is actually underrated. I had big hopes Camacho was going to fight him when he still had a bit left but unfortunately it didn't come around.
Boza was a good fighter and as game as they come. I appreciated his effort against Arguello and of course the Chacon fights. I always thought he'd have been better if he'd just box a little more and not get sucked in to the wars.
And boxing wonders why its on the decline-Boza-Chacon was on free TV! And both there bouts were as good as any pay-per-view! Always liked Boza-had great boxing skills but too much of a warrior's mentality. And Chacon........well everybody knows about Chacon.
He was one of my favorite fighters. All action all heart & classy. I truly thought he was headed for the big time after his wars with Chacon & Limon and was shocked with his knockout to Navarette. Stunned, couldn't believe it. Well he went out like he always fought, Toe to toe, never taking a backwards step. A true Ugandan Warrior.
