What stands out for you ?

Was it a trainers words of wisdom ?

    A cutsmans healings powers ?

    A fighters attitude ?

Anyways, which fight/fighter/trainer/cutsman/seconds/randomer stands out to you ?

Randomers = Eubank on his sons debut........for example.

Quotes and vids would be much appreciated.

    Thanks :thumbsup

I gave ma cousin a boxing poster and he asked me if it had four corners :nut

Anyways, read a while back that when cutsmen etc use the cold iron......many simply make it worse.......too much pressure and smoothing out damages the tissue.......so to speak.

Knowing your boxer is so crucial IMO or at least understanding the kind of person he is.

Rob McCracken is always great with Froch, very calm, tells him what he wants.

I hate it when the cornerman talks in cliches and fails to give advice, shocking how often it happens - its almost like they never rehearse during hard sparring what their role is...

I think also a cornerman/trainer coming in late to work with a fighter is no good on the whole - ie Chris Johnson with Fury didn't seem to know fully what kind of guy Tyson was...

    Cool post.

Some of the simple stuff amazes me...letting fighters rest there arms on the ropes for example (maybe they believe diff....the trainer) or the trainer not making themselves clear and i dont mean giving out a million words or as ya mention cliches.....i kinda mean asserting themselves.

As ya says......understanding them mentally is crucial.

McCracken is a nice example too...and Froch seems to listen now.

Could ramble on and post random pics of Benny King, Stoney and 'tashes but i will refrain.....

Another thing, after meeting the Darklord......life changed (It did)

Dont know who he was, but Groves' cutman in the DeGale fight was very good, as was Adam Booth.

Jim McDonnell was terrible by comparison.

watched the film 'the fighter' the other day and i have never seen anybody get their boxer to jump up and down to get the life back in their legs!!!

  12. There's nothing worse than a ranter and raver when all the fighter needs is some clear advice.

Pepe Correa for Lewis was a terrible pairing personality-wise, aside from being a very average trainer/cornerman.

The Dark One is a good cornerman but I've got reservations over his ability to mould fighters in different styles.

Dunno how to explain tbh, Groves had just weighed in for Smith.....and i says to Groves ya wanna pic with me ?....he says ayes sure just need to go get a juice.

George returns and i turn to Booth and well........i kinda just stuttered......ok if i get a pic with ya and errrrrrr em errrrrrr......

It was like he just saw right through me, cool and collective, yet warm and interested......

Anyways, i got the pic and i look like Marvin of The Scheme (somehow) as am chewing ma gum..........and Booth has a shocking jacket on.

Is this based on a former fighter mac ?

Googles all over the shop here.....

Never heard of this but who knows eh.......i was always told to let ma legs stretch out straight.

    How ya means ?

I read about people saying he is moulding Groves like Haye though i dont see it......and i do know that Booth is particular about who he trains.....if he trains them.

    Not digging......just wondering.

A few AM trainers standout from my days boxing..

John Ward (Rosehill ABC)- His padwork was unique, he'd feint a lot and circle the pads around in air then go 'jab, right hand, left hook to body'. He wasn't bad and a real nice guy but i didn't like when he pulled the pad away sometimes if the punch wasn't coming as fast as he wanted. He could of hyperextended my elbow cos a few times i felt it as i missed.

John Barrett (Rosehill)- Don't throw hooks, only straight punches!. He also told me once to not switch hit which i was good at doing. Nothing flashy just when transitioning i had ability to box orthodox for a while then revert back to southpaw cos i boxed a few years in different stances. Funny thing is he told me not to do that but sent a lad out to box once and told him to come out and then switch stances to trick the opponent. The lad did as he said and ended up getting knocked down :rofl.

Man just used to talk filth, doing press ups 'pretend your looking up britney spears skirt, licking her ****' 'you ****ing the ground!?'

Ernie (Rosehill ABC)- Must of passed away by now, guy was legend. All he used to say to every kid 'Keep your hands up!!'. He looked a bit like Hank Hills dad and sounded like him . Lovely man and kept gym ticking over..

    This content is protected

Mel Simmons (Battersea ABC)- Gloved up first night at the old gym, ready to do some padwork and he goes jab!. I went 'where's the other pad....?' he says 'don't need two pads they only got one head'. It was the worst padwork i've ever had. He's done a great job there but felt it was poor padwork. He obviously couldn't work the pads and work me through the combinations i like to throw.

I remember a guy coming to work in our Gym called David, Ex Pro fighter he was in a wheelchair due to being shot in the back. He used to make us train with jungle music on. Nutcase to say the least he wanted me and another lad to do some bareknuckle fights in Croydon to get some experience.

I talk to my mate who's boxed, he knows Ola Afolabi (fought him) and Leon McKenzie (fought him as well). He'd be a good trainer he talks sense and has insight which many i've come across don't.
