Clinch fights are complete snoozefests...it's painful to watch.
Should definitely be punished just as much as headbutting and low blows.

I don want to see clinching removed from the sport but it should be used when necessary to recover not as a means of avoiding someone hitting you back.

It is against the types of boxing. Personally I think it should be treated in a similar way to spitting out your gum shield.

This. I have no issue with a clinch used when a fighter is hurt. When it becomes used to implement part of a fight strategy, I have a real issue with it.

every fighter has his style which he feels most comfortable with, some are dirty and boring, some are eye-catching and fun, clashes of styles are what makes the sport intriuging

I agree. But excessive clinching does not and should not form part of a fighter's style.

it shouldn't, but clinching (not excesive holding, there's a big difference) is a skill dating back to the days of Ali and earlier

Ward needs to clinch in order to tie up and wear his opponents down, it's his style and it's his right to use it (as long as the rules allow it)

There is an element of skill to clinching but it's used far to much to negate, nullify and spoil the opposition. It's not a fair or pure, free flowing way of fighting and it's about time the referees enforce more deductions.

Clinching is a skill the same way that hitting a guy low while the ref is on the other side is a skill.

The thing is, while Wlad is like a wrestler in some fights, he's almost clinchless in others. He's very inconsistent in his clinching. It depends more on what his opponent do. Tall or mobile opponents= very sporadic clinching.

The winner forces the loser to fight the fight the winner wants to fight. Tie him up. Break. Back at range.

against peter, byrd even was clinching a decent amount against Pulev before he blasted him out just to name a few

Are you trying to say that Wlad doesn't clinch a lot?
