The Cotto from Quintana fight or Cotto from the Foreman fight, Which Cotto is better?

I'm only asking this question because Quintana was a very skilled counterpuncher and boxer(undefeated and at his best) when Cotto fought him and Foreman was also undfeated when Cotto beat him, and Foreman was a pretty good skilled boxer with good movement and Cotto outboxed and outskilled him(even before the injury occured). So which Cotto do you think is better, the more improved, better balanced Cotto that Manny Stewart worked on, or the old Cotto from the Quintana Fight?

Technically, the Cotto from the Foreman fight, but he still had that unbeaten confidence, and aura of some kind of Terminator for the Quintana fight.

    Really is a toss up.

The Cotto from the Quintana fight had unwavering confidence in his abilities and approached the fight with the mental edge that we haven't seen in a while. He pulled no punches and fought with a killer instinct; his movement, his patented left hook to the body and his punch selection was so fluent, so natural, it was second nature.

Under Manny Stewart he seems restrained, he's still aggressive but it feels like he's thinking in there. His approach is a little more contrived, and although his footwork has improved it's still feels like a watered down version of Cotto.

My theory on Manny Stewart is that when it comes to tall fighters he is an expert; he will transform a good fighter into a great champion. But when it comes to shorter more aggressive fighters he doesn't do them any justice. He's the kind of trainer that pressure fighters need when once they hit a certain age because he knows how to correct bad habits and re-instill fundamentals that older fighters rely on more and more when thier youth and explosiveness begin to fade. He is a great strategist as well but he incorporates a little bit more patience in his approach which can hurt or help a fighter depending on their style.

Hearns, Lewis, W. Klitschko are guys who benefitted most from Stewart's school of boxing.

Jermain Taylor and Miguel Cotto became less effective because Stewart suppressed their natural instincts.

The Cotto from the Quintana fight, without question, imo.

As in, I can see two rounds of each fight and tell with ease what Cotto is simply better.

    Just imo though

theirs a difference, the Cotto of today is not shot as everyone says and he has become a better boxer but he doesnt have that aura of invisibility that he had for Quintana anymore

I agree with what your saying to a certain extent but don't you think that if the situation presents itself(kind of like in the quintana fight) that he would be able to do the same if all manny stewart did was add to what he already has? Because to me, all Stewart did was add a little more to Cotto's game and we seen that tenacity in his last fight with Margarito when he was being pressured. I personally think he's better NOW.

It's tough to say... I'd say skill wise the Cotto from the Foreman fight, but if I'm forced to say who was the better fighter I'd actually go with the Cotto from the Quintana fight.

He looked like he hadn't lost a step in the foreman fight in terms of boxing ability.(he actually looked a little better) He looked very strong and tenacious in the Margarito fight, as well as sharper, but the even better thing is, he's even more experienced in big fights.

Any version of Cotto pre-margartio / pacquiao was better simply for the fact he still had his confidence , and he wasn't damaged . These days he's a lot more hesitant to engage and he doesn't seem to be able to soak up damage all too well anymore. But he also seems to have worked on some of his technical flaws and that's helped too.

^^ Now> .........Pacquiao version and that is all that matters...

Cotto is better becaue he has learned from his mitakes, is not coming in drained to benefit the smaller dude, will fight at his comfortable weight and no need to shed extra pounds...confidence at an all time high by beating one of the 2 men that cheated him...

From a purely technical standpoint, Cotto looked better in the Foreman fight, but it's unclear how powerful Cotto's offense is at this point; he hasn't been able to use his pressure-fighting style as much against bigger men at 154. So if he's able to replicate confident offensive performances like Quintana or Mosley while still having the added benefits of better fundamentals and new dimensions in his movement, then I'd consider him better now.

Well I don't see why Bogotazo, when the man said he has all his condidence back after the second Margarito fight. Why would you doubt that he can't, when he proved it in his last fight?
