actually "boxers" usually are counterpunchers. Sort of like how boxer-punchers are.

Every good fighter is a counter-puncher. These labels you guys come up with - swarmer, and all that other stuff are silly. What are the other ones? I'm pretty sure they came off a video game.
When you push forward, you make the other guy punch. This creates an opening. You move into it and punch.

Yes but some are strictly counter punchers as in they almost always wait for the opponent to throw first. I thought the boxer was more of an outside fighter that hits and runs

Yea I somewhat agree. I think the boxer is able to control range, use good footwork, has decent defense and is able to get off first and fight off of the front foot, whereas I think the counter puncher, like you said, usually waits for the opponent to throw first, fights off of the backfoot and is more economical with their punches.

The counter puncher may have slightly better timing and reflexes in some cases. Maybe the boxer has slightly more punch variety. There's always exceptions to every rule though

the way I remember it there were:

    The swarmer/ aggressor

    The runner

    The counter puncher

The counter puncher usually was the most skilled, experienced and difficult opponent of the three.

What about Toad? he had incredible strength. Scorpion, Centipede, lizard and snake? Those 5 guys beat all styles. Too bad they fought each other, or else they would have been invincible.
