Putting aside the terrible racism displayed if possible, reading Adam's excellent new Johnson book has reconfirmed to me just how under rated Tommy Burns has become. He demonstrated exceptional toughness and courage and fought till the very end in his bout against an absolutely prime Johnson when he was really a super middleweight ... he took exceptional punishment and kept on coming, still demonstrating skills along the way .. history has not been kind to Burns and he deserves a detailed second look.

Burns is highly underrated, he was 5"7 and weighed in at 170 and he fought and beat some great fighters who were much larger. His courage was amazing and he is undermined. He ducked no one....tough *******

From what I read about him, he sounded like a great man who's stance on race was ahead of his time.

Burns was a business man, and took the Johnson fight for the money.
