Is the author of that thread "Mijares is God" still here? I asked this because someone has just mentioned about this topic.
He started believing his own hype - that's really it. He didn't have the tools to cope with an unorthodox fighter like Vic. But he's still supremely talented - hopefully the Vic fight didn't ruin his confidence.
Fights that he should have lost??? atsch You gotta be kidding me man. The guy outclassed Arce, Kawashima, Navarro, and Munoz to unify the division, something that had not been done in many years. He had an impressive string of wins with top competition. He lost to Vic, whats the shame about that, and many say he was robbed in his comeback fight. Just because you don't like him and Amsterdam does not erase the fact that Mijares is a very good boxer who accomplished a lot.
Please that kid is hype and always was...I think that the mistake that people make is that hyped up fighters cant be good fighters. Is Mijares a good fighter??YES is his a p4p fighter??? NO. the hype that surrounded the guy was greater then he is a fighter, thus making him a hyped fighter. And all the talk about how he was robbed and should have won those fights blah blah..I have been on and around these broads long enough to know that most of the people commenting about those fights never ****ing saw the fights. In fact i would bet that most had never seen Mijires fighter before his fight with Arce. One of the fights that Im talking about is his fight with Maldonado. Mijares lost that fight, in fact Maldonado got a title shot in his next fight. Maldonado beat Mijares but looked like a club fighter in fights with Vic, Donaire and Montiel. That is a clue that Mijares is more hype.
Any good boxing fan that watched him fight before Vic would appreciate the very talented Mijares. It doesn't matter that Amsterdam called him a god or not. Mijares fought brilliantly in the fights he won, which deservingly gave him a pound for pound slot. And because of that very few people saw Vic doing anything special, to me the result was an upset, and Vic exploited Mijares' inability to adapt to his style. I still believe Mijares can outclass most of the fighters around his weight class if his mentality has not gone to shits after Darchinyan.
Mijares was good - but apparently he read too many of his own headlines and forgot that he actually had to fight to win. Amsterdam = dumbass.
No he wasn't. It was a close fight which could have gone either way and quite frankly Cermeno deserved it. Robbery is just bull**** talking.
