Could there be better ways to apply this punch? Conventional wisdom often features balance, form, and a greater step-in to increase the power in this punch, but more than once we have seen fighters with KO power with this shot that get off balance, or have an unorthodox form when it's thrown. It got me thinking when most notably Robinson was throwing these types of punches in his clips; his foot would launch off the ground to shoot the right, and he'd maintain his balance by letting the momentum carry him and his body would rotate about a quarter circle or so before he was re-planted. Most probably has to do with the mindset of punching "through" the opponent, which leaves the fighter overextended and off-balance, but perhaps there is more to this- a larger step in would allow a larger time frame to apply the force but if the punch is stopped short (not aiming to punch through the opponent/punching to go off balance) then the front foot, naturally taking the brunt of the person's weight, will reduce the amount of weight transferred to the opponent via the punch. I liken this to the consensus when it comes to running in which the feet normally stay behind you to prevent the loss of momentum. I think this has to do with the center of gravity of the person throwing the shot being behind the front foot in one instance, and in-line or in front of the foot in the other instance. What do you guys think- :think any math whizzes feel free to provide input
Dont know what to think but it amazes me. Its like when Roy Jones and a few other fighters throw the right hand while jumping into a southpaw stance and connect without getting hit back. Wtf?
like how Pac throws his jab, then a straight lift, then another jab. Often times, it's not really a jab that he throws behind his straight left but a straight right. He throws the first jab, then lunges in with the left and turns into an orthodox stance and pushes off his back foot (right foot) for the last right. That last right does alot more damage than people think. what's funny is how people think Pac was a 1-1-2 fighter when he was younger but it was more of a jab-left-right than jab-jab-left combination. And like I said he gets good pop behind that last right cause he lunges in with the left and then pushes off the right foot for the last right. And like you said above his left is also more powerful because he lets his momentum go forward.
