Hi Red! I think we can all agree that Sonny scares the s**t out of anyone just looking at him.
When was he born? Who knows? Perhaps could have hit prime in the early 50's had things gone his way but...
In closing, the thread recalled an interview with Floyd (I'm sure you've heard it) where he went to Sonny's hotel room after one of the Ali fights (not sure which). I'm paraphrasing: "I walked in and Sonny was obviously somber and down. I told him he needed to hold his head up and just get back to business. He was ill at ease and appeared angry. I thought, at the time, I'd better get out of there or we might have a 3rd fight in the making. I headed towards the door and Sonny said: Floyd?...Thank you!"
    Our guy!!!

That means a lot, thank you Ent :)

These period pieces are really exciting for me, because they feel innovative in the sense that I attempt to modernize old fighters using video and film techniques not technically or culturally available at their time.

I usually wait for an idea to spark. This can happen when I'm day dreaming, watching footage, or listening to music. Once a good idea forms, I start doing research to find out how feasible it is to carry out the idea. Sometimes the footage quality doesn't convey the idea, and I've scrapped many near finished projects of this. Sometimes I bring a project back from the dead if a new idea or piece of footage emerges that fills in a gap.

For this video, I've had the song in my back pocket for a while now, knowing it would be perfect for my style of video. It took me several months to realize it was perfect for Liston. After watching more footage of Sonny, and listening to the song often, I realized that his fighting style matched the tempo perfectly. And that the punctuations of the song went hand in hand with his powerful hits. Then I realized all the neat little things I could do given this combination, such as the jab jump cut sequence, and the slow motion scenes with Patterson.

I also always try to make sure the video keeps a good balance of being informative while also being entertaining. I try to present things honestly, and I am very careful not to use my "powers" to distort or twist the reality of things. I strive for accuracy. And I still see myself in the infancy stages of my editing abilities.

Hmm, try clicking on the title in the video box. It may take you to Youtube where you should be good to watch.

If not, just search "Reznick Boxing" in Youtube. Click on my channel, and watch from there!

jowcol, this episode has enhanced my already high esteem for Floyd over the years. I've said before that there's FP's in the ring exploits...for which that's enough in itself to be a lifetime fan, but his out of the ring life, including this visit to Liston's room after that fight showed me, and my dad as well, that he was more than just a fighter...a famous name with his own massive accomplishments, but possessing a character that made him a man's man always, in my books. A real role model outside the ring as well,...a real life inspiration.
edit: This happened after the 2nd Ali fight, in a Lewiston Me hotel room.

Compare that to how Kennedy and Sinatra treated Floyd after he lost to Sonny. He went to JFK's suite to apologise - to APOLOGISE!! FFS!! - and the president just turned his back. Floyd, in relating the story, said: "I got the message, I got out." No judgment. Nothing but class. Maybe that lesson guided him on being the only support poor Sonny had in his moment of need but for Sonny, cometh the hour, cometh the man, And that man was Patterson.

Just to join the others in saying thanks, Rez. Great of you to take the trouble to put it together. Hopefully, it will bring in a few new fans to the sport as well. Cheers buddy. Keep them coming. Any danger of a highlight reel showing any of the following...? Would love to see these get your ttreatment.

    Patterson's explosiveness
    Ezzard Charles' footwork
    Michael Spinks' devastating unorthodoxy.
    Miracle Matthew performing miracles.

If you haven't got plans to do any, out of interest, what music would you use if you did? As I say, thanks and look forward to the next one. Unless, of course, it's about Marciano's subtly brilliant footwork in which case you can stick it up your arse ;)

As a music lover I always liked Frank until he pulled that crapola.
Now? Give me Johnny Hartman over 'blue eyes' any day, hence my moniker. :)

jowcol,...it's always been Dean Martin >>>Sinatra for me...and from what I've read, the "Mob" always preferred the cool, laid back Dino over "Mr. Bluster" Sinatra..
