OMFG! :rofl Yep, that's a world beater allright... That loss against Tye Fields was just a fluke! :bart
Indeed his regression is quite alarming it appears he was at the top of his talent but is now heading south. within a few years he may well be wearing a vest, head guard and 16oz gloves. He needs the big fights now before its too late.
Remember Povetkin is the guy who Kalle Sauerland loudly announced in 2008 (almost 3 years ago) to become a world champ within 6 months. Where is this bum now? Notice how Sauerland totally shut down the marketing machine on him?
Povetkin has taken a big step back in competition, he had beaten guys like Chambers, Byrd, Donald, and Ahananyu(in his 5th or 6th fight) and now he's facing guys like Firtha. But, in fairness to Povetkin, Atlas did say he wanted to get in some more fights and rounds in for the two of them together. I want to see someone better than Firtha and Oruh but Atlas said he's going to keep him busy and then fight some top guys. I think Povetkin will face some top fighters soon and wouldn't be surprised if he fights for a title sometime in 2011. I'm willing to let Atlas's plan play out before I write Povetkin off. He's a top talent and I think he has a good year coming up.
The weirdest thing is he worked himself up to number 1 contender status and is now trying to work his way down. You can't be doing that. Especially in the heavyweight division, you will lose credibility. As the top tier is not that vast anyways, After this "tune up" with this nobody he NEEDS to kick on or else, slippery slide downwards.
And check this, the guy who is is fighting is 6ft 6. Say Alex struggles to beat him, looks bad beating him? It's a risky fight. He can't afford any slip ups now, if he does, forget about the title shot! (which he had in his grasp)
Yeah but as a coaching "force" he's nowhere in boxing! And yes that's the only thing he seems to be doing, taking Alex down. His master plan could well backfire! Backing away from a shot that fighters dont always get. To be honest Povetkin is silly to be staying with Atlas.
Haha. Surely Povetkin needs to stop this guy he's fighting? anything less will just not do. And even if he does stop him? so what, who does he take on next? needs to be an Arreola if he wants a hard tough fight, or Haye? Adamek? See the problem is he could slip up against one of these guys and it comes right back down to the fact that he was the top dog for a long while and didn't take his shot.
