Very interesting situation here Chacal was the no. 4-5 P4P fighter in the world, 2 Olympic gold medals. Undefeated record. The man, the myth, the legend. Takes the challenge by moving up in weight and gets outclassed and quits against Loma. The same Loma that he clowned on twitter for months on end And then, gone, since Dec 9, never to be seen or heard from again by the boxing media His so called fans? Vanished just like Rigo did. I guess its normal when your fighter lets you down by quitting and then disappearing. Has this ever happened before in boxing, to this scale?
For weeks afterwards there were Rigo posters wearing brown paper bags with eyeholes in them. Now they just pretend they never heard of the guy. "Rigo? Nuh-huh. I never supported him. Who dat?" "Rigo? Is that the new resort on the Spanish coast?" "Rigondeaux? Oh, yeah, the new sec champagne? It's fruity with a hint of salt."
Now Rigo is a nobody? Rigo moved up two weight classes to fight one of the best p4p boxers. Rigo did not gain one pound for this fight and came in at his normal fighting weight. Rigo still cannot get a fight in his weight class, and still is the most feared man in boxing. I guess he will have to challenge Mikey Garcia to get his next fight. With that said I guarantee nobody in his weight class will get in the ring with the CHAKAL!!
He was on the back-9 before the Loma fight and I wouldn’t be surprised if that bout pushed him into retirement. We very well may never see him in the ring again. He was such an elite fighter and it’s one thing to get caught and slept, mistakes happen. Or lose a tough/controversial decision. But he was so thoroughly outclassed for the first time in his career, amateur or professional. Must be a tough pill to swallow. I was a big fan of his when he came onto the scene and smoked Donaire but he had a very poorly managed career thereafter. Could’ve and should’ve made a lot more money and defined his legacy.
I wish he would fight again and KTFO one of those paper champs. Fighting Loma only proved how good Loma was, we still know Rigo is world class. He's past his beat but still much better than anyone around 126.
Emotions aside, let's see what we've got here. Rigondeaux is ridiculously old for a small boxer, but his style of fighting is stationary. His hands' speed partially should be gone now, though, I think. Nevertheless, he can still fight and be quite competitive. Well, he can try to, at least.
I actually thought Rigo was going to be a significant challenge for Lomachenko. So did most other posters, I think.
I’ve been saying this for years. Santa Snooze and Frampton, lack the courage (integrity) to say his name. To Mares’s credit, he admitted that he doesn’t think he can beat Rigo.
