The current Heavyweight Division is one of the best eras ever

When I can dig up those stats I'll be happy to provide them. Its why I stated "ifnim not mistaken". As far as the rest of your post...this is about the entire era. What does being a heavyweight in a past era have to do with being a "modern" heavyweight? Eras are judged by who you fought and who your opponents fought. With that this era lags behind and I've proven that already in another thread. We can try to determine fantasy fights till the end of time, but the only thing provable is what you've done again the contemporaries of your own era.

I have been following boxing for a long time and one thing that has been a constant is "the heavyweight division is at its all time worst ever". It was at its worse in the late 70s, the early 80s, the early 90s, the turn of this century, and thus far in the early teens of the 21st century. Very true. But going by the numbers this is the bottom of the barrel.

 

Actually in a few short years when Wlad retires it will be even worse.....if that's any consolation.

 

IMO there are other preceding eras that are much worse i.e. "Bum of The Month", Marciano, Liston ( Liston didn't really have a strong opponent, nobody that could outright challenge until Clay/Ali ), Patterson, Johansen, even the Holmes era ( Holmes only quality prime opponent was Witherspoon the rest were just paste i.e. Cooney etc. ) Mike Tyson's competitors were viewed as being crap at the time they were active too.

I'd say this era may be behind the late 60s-early70s and the Lewis-Holyfield era but that's about it.

 

Its funny, you always say how long you've watched boxing but really know very little about it. I think almost every champion fought more top 10 fighters than Wlad and contenders fought each other more often. Every time you mention the "bum of the month club" I get a chuckle. Louis fought 6 top 10 contenders in 1 year I believe. That's more than Wlad has in 3 years. Patterson fought many more top 10 heavyweights, Holmes.... Liston cleaned out the top 10. I could go on and on, but you premise for judging era's is based on make believe fights that involve magical time travel.
