The current Middleweight division is the worst division in history

The best middlweight athletes are all playing darts or bowling.

From the yearly Ring Magazine rankings. None of the guys you mentioned are or were ranked by any non alphabet group, which I simply refuse to accept because we will end up with a top 10 MW list consisting of 25 fighters due to the corruption of those groups. Obviously, the Ring isn't the be all and end all, so I also used the TRBR rankings which are just as legitimate (and made by actual professionals who try to rank fighters based on merit rather than profit), and it only had 2 fighters not ranked by the Ring, both of whom I mentioned. A top 10 with a few guys being interchangable is fine, a top 10 with 25 different candidates is not a to 10, it's a top 25.

The Milkhailovich situation makes it even worse regarding Janibek, if anything. We don't even know if he will suddenly just drop out of a fight because he can't make the weight without killing himself. If he moves up, the division will somehow end up even worse than it already is.

All of the men I said were ranked were ranked by TBRB, BLH, or The Ring.

Only Mikhailovich is ranked, and only by BLH.

I have actually mentioned Denny in the original post. Fair enough on the rest, didn't actually know the TRBR had its own rankings history. But my original point still stands on the division being stagnant, I think the fact that the guys you mentioned aren't ranked now after their defeats says it all, really. No one that the top guys have beaten was good enough to settle as a top 10, just brief fringe contenders. And the rest like Eubank jr and co are just....yeah.

The fact that old Lara is a top dog means the division must be weak

It truly is awful! Because it's usually my favourite division, I recently started going through the rankings and watching fight videos trying to find some good fighters there in this division. But the vast majority of them look poor. These guys ranked high up like Etinosa Oliha, Patrice Volny, Shane Mosley Jr, Anauel Ngmissengue, Fiodor Czerkasyn, Vadim Tukov. Marquis Taylor, Troy Isley, Cesar Mateo Tapia , Yoenli Hernandez, Rafal Wolczecki - Not impressed with any of them! All either poor or bang average!

The best Middleweights coming up I'd say are/ the only ones that impressed me were:

    Meiirim Nursultanov (Kazakhstan) 20-0 (11), age 31
    Gleb Bakshi (Serbia/Russia) 4-0 (2), age 29
    Derek Pomerleau (Canada) 10-0 (8), age 24
    Aaron Mckenna (Ireland) 19-0 (10), age 25
    Raul Lizarraga (USA) 14-0 (13), age 23
    Jimmy Sains (GB), 7-0 (7), age 23

A few of these will do good things. But most of them are a long way away from a shot at titles though and unproven. It's gonna continue to be bleak for a good while at least.

Hopefully some of the top 154'ers move up.
