Bearing in mind we haven't seen him for a while, how do people see him going against Peter Quillin? The bookies have Winky at pretty long odds for a win (7-2), VERY long odds for a stoppage(and rightfully so) at 13-1. I've only seen Quillin in bits and pieces and don't know so much about him. So if anybody can educate me a little on Quillin a little I'd be grateful. I didn't think Winky was that far gone in the Paul Williams fight, just that Williams had a style, punch output, and physical advantages to trouble Winky. Against Hopkins, I thought Winky acquitted himself pretty well, and was in the mix. Both fights seem a very long time ago now though. Obvious questions are how much does Winky Wright have left, and how much motivation does he have at this stage of his career?
I don't rate Quillin that highly but Winky is done I think. Hes 40 years old and has only fought twice in about five years (both losses). He hasn't actually won a fight in years lol. If Winky isn't completely done though I see him causing problems. EDIT: Just checked, he last won a fight in Dec 06'
I might put some money on a Wright decision. I'm hoping that he is at the same level that he was in the Williams fight. Quillin picks his shots and has good speed and power but isn't very active. I think Wright could steal enough close rounds with straight punches and covering up. Smart money says Kid Chocolate takes a clear decision though.
Thing that will help Winky is his style isn't age dependent in terms of him needing to use reflexes and speed. It's whether he will be sharp enough to gauge range and use that jab if the ring rust has been shed in sparring then he can win this. His defence will cause Quillin problems and i'm not overly impressed by Kid Chocolate in general anyways. It's weird that he makes comeback this week on same week Paul Williams career comes to a sad end. Williams being his last opponent and beating Winky in a shutout on my card.
I rate Williams win over Winky quite highly for those same reasons. In light of recent events it's sad to think back just how much potential Williams seemed to have then, especially following it up with the Martinez win. He seemed destined for a long run at the top.
Is Ronald Winky Wright the type of guy to keep himself in condition at all times like Floyd Mayweather or Bernard Hopkins? Does he keep himself in condition like David Haye, and still find time to party and travel the world? Or has he been eating ****, and drinking large amounts of booze during his lay off? If he is the last option, I feel his physical skills would of decreased far to much, to launch a big attack at a world title. But if he is the other 3 Options, I personally prefer to be the David Haye lifestyle. Train hard and look after yourself during the week days, but go AWOL on the weekend, and finger birds everywhere.......I should be doing more fingering......you know why? Because its boss.
Winky is married and apparently plays golf a lot. Don't know whether he goes AWOL at weekends and fingers other birds though This content is protected
Is there a name for that pose with the fingers that Wright is doing? I know some people call it the "Urban Thumb's up" as a ****-take.
He's been known to enjoy the casinos in Vegas. Don't know if he's a hard drinker but did hear months ago that he was getting into good shape and was hoping for a tune up by the end of last year - which didn't happen obviously, but still.
Sometimes pics like this can be miss leading. Because boxers cut carbs and dry out before fights, even fighters that are not really in top condition, at weigh ins they can look in great condition. Because carbs retain water............ Look how bloated Shane Mosley was on the night of he fight when he fought Floyd Mayweather compared to the weigh in.
