the darker side of rocky marciano....

Look , Marciano was a mixed bag like everyone else .... not the saint his hardcore fans may make him out to be but by all accounts a pretty decent guy ... he was a small town guy that married young, sacrificed a ton and excelled ... post title he wanted to make up for all the sacrifices ... his marriage shifted, he was on the road more and more and enjoyed the fruits of his celebrity across the board ... he was not content to grow old in Brockton talking bout what once was ... like Dempsey and many before him and after he needed the action of non-stop motion ...

Rocky was also fixated on money .. he knew from near poverty growing up .. he was a very smart guy .. he tried his best to save his ring earnings and was deeply frustrated by the huge chunks his managers took from him ... post retirement it is rumored he did some serious shylock work with his own funds and his own collections .. (imagine Marciano coming after you for his money ? ) ... he did befriend mobsters who for the most part idolized him as an Italian, as an undefeated chmpion and as a man's man ...

All and all he was known to have a generous heart to friends and even at times strangers as well as a beloved friend by many ... no one is the same man at 44 as they were at 24 and this should not be held against Marciano ... to me he was a very bright, cautious, successful guy inside the ring and outside of it ... he retired undefeated and stayed out of the ring, resisting the temptations and the huge dollars offered to come back ... he managed to keep his money post ring retirement and even make more .. you have to respect that ..

 

Really though... who doesn't have a suitcase full of dildos?

But I bet he snored something terrible after his nose got split. Horrible sinuses.
