He was drained, just not at the weigh-in, but before. Like Roach said, a lot of fighters have their stomach shrink if they spend too long without eating anything substantial. After a certain point, you can only take in so many fluids and solid foods.

    He dieted!!!
Big difference. He can drink (therefore not drained) but his calories were limited.

He basically entered the biggest loser camp.

You cannot drain yourself for too long. The body's metabolism would go whack becuase your electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, etc) as well as the ACID-BASE balance would be disrupted. Your kidneys would also be working ectra hard because a DRAINED fighter would have a HYPER+OSMOLAR blood, meaning that it would be more concentrated, that it would damage the kidneys.

On the other hand, Hoya went to a calorie restricted diet, in order for the body to utilize his glycogen reserve (liver), then his fat (subctaneuos and other site) and in extreme cases, the muscle, as an eergy source through a process called GLUCOGENESIS.

The overall result is weight loss, not weight drain. Big difference.

Weight draining is what fighters do before weigh-in, not 2 weeks before weigh-in.

It's funny how before the Pac-DLH fight EVERYONE was picking DLH to beat him, but now since Pacquaio has become a rival with Floyd, all the sudden DLH was drained badly and Pacqiauo doesnt get credit for the win. THe copy of Ring Magazine before this fight in the section where they have fighters/trainers/ judges/refs and all boxing people pick who they think will win the fight, only 2 of them picked pacquiao to win. I bet all these floyd fan boys thought the same thing before the fight, but now pull all these bs excuses since the pacquaio-mayweather bs has been going on

Oscar thought that if he could train and drain himself down to 147 then his body would adapt to that weight ready for the pacquiao fight, which then Oscar would put the pounds on big time after the weigh-in. Basically he thought he could do it, but the signs were already there that Oscar was in trouble. He was getting beat in sparring apparantly, which I do believe was the case he sacked a sparring partner. If you can't beat your sparring partner, then you have no chance against pacquiao.

People can claim Pacquiao was the bully draining Oscar, but it was Oscar who had the intentions of beating up on the smaller man, which is why he offered the fight at those conditions. Oscars plan backfired.

It could be that, or Oscar is just about MONEY. He probably never trained very well. He was part=time boxer and more like businessman.

If MONEY Mayweather thinks he trademarked that name, he should just check with the PATENT OFFFICE because it might be that OSCAR already has patent to it.

Anyway, no sane person, ******* or *****, would claim that fight like it is the greatest invention since the wheel, just like the Gayweather-Oscar fight was. It was a MONEY FIGHT, nothing more, nothing less.

Obviously everyone thought DeLaHoya would win, yourself included.

People knew he would be cutting alot of weight, but thought Pac would still be too small

De La Hoya was drained come fight night, Freddie Roach admited as much

If this fight was at 160 no way Pac would have won

But it wasnt, and Pac turned up and beat him up bad

No one is making excuses, because it was Pacs night clearly... But its extremely ignorant to say that weight played no part, because it played a huge part

I think Oscar had the mentality of hitting two birds with one stone. I do really believe that Oscar thought that challenging and then beating Pacquiao would put him on that p4p status, and then obviously a huge rematch with Floyd. I think Oscar was licking his lips at even the possibility of fighting pacquiao because he saw himself as just too big. Obviously many believed that was the case because Pacquiao was a big underdog.

In the end, only the financial plan turned out correct, but he took a beating for it, something that I don't think Oscar handled that well. Oscar might be rich, but he has the winning mentality, which is why he's so successful becase he doesn't like to lose.

Like I said earlier, it was Oscar and his camps own fault for coming in drained on fight night. He had been boxing for over a decade, so he knows damn well how to cut weight the right way for the weigh in, and then coming in 5-15 pounds more on fight night. The fact that he came in on fight night at the same weight he did the day before is his own stupid fault.

Lets look at the facts around Fishnets weighthopping prowess

18/01/1997 weighed in at 140 for the last time vs Miguel Angel Gonzalez (remember this date)

    Stepped up to Welterweight:

12/04/1998 weighed in at 146.5 vs Pernell Whitaker

then fought another 11 times weighing in at 146.5 or 147 until stepping up to JMW:

23/06/2001 weighed in at 154 vs Javier Castillejo

fought another 7 times between 153.5 and 160 (Sturm) before fighting two pound stevie forbes on 03/05/2008 at 150.

The forbes fight was the lightest the 35 year old DLH had weighed in at since the Gatti fight 7 years earlier

He then weighed in for his career last fight at 145 against pacquiao on 06/12/2008, his lightest weight since the Gonzalez fight in 1997 when DLH was over Eleven years younger

I struggle to see how a 35 year old fighting at his lightest weight since he was a 23 year old, was not weight drained :huh

People say this **** with a straight face? :admin
