So you've just answered your own question, if you really believe that Kessler is a better fighter than Hopkins you are crazy even at this stage of Hopkins career, Joe proved to be a better all round fighter than Kessler, we are agreed but you are presuming that a fight with Hopkins is gonna play out the same way as a fight with Kessler, Calzaghe is a brilliant fighter but Hopkins is not going to stand there and be mesmerised by Joes speed, round after round, he will attempt to draw Joe onto him and from a side-on stance try to pick him off, this fight will require a totally different gameplan than the Kessler fight, this will be Joe's closest and toughest fight, tactics wise, without a doubt

Great post, Winky at 170lbs shouldnt have even gone ahead its like De La Hoya at 160, totally ridiculous and just a money making exercise

You're obviously into name value. Winky is a much bigger name than Kessler, but to say he is better than Kessler above 160 is way off. Watch the actual film...

would you care to remind me what happened to hops the last time he stepped between the ropes against a young boxer? went 0-2 didn't he? and we are talking a vastly inferior fighter to the viking warrior here. i have no doubts in my mind that kessler would systematically take old man river apart.

Both at their best, Winky was better. But Calzaghe's win over Kessler is better.

JMM is a vastly superior boxer to anthony mundine. who gives calzaghe the better fight?

weight classes are there for a reason. winky went too far north and paid. sad thing for hops is that winky with no legs and sporting a rubber ring around his midrift still gave 'nard plenty to think about.

    in theory yes.

but 'nard is at the end of his career so it's understandable and will be even more understandable when calzaghe really makes him look his age next year.

Calzaghe isnt a young boxer, hes 35 ..... I had Hopkins beating Taylor in that 1st fight and if you recall both fights with Taylor were very close .. And might i remind you that i have said that Calzaghe will win but it will be close and Calzaghe's toughest and closest fight .. Whether you think Kessler is a better fighter than Hopkins is meaningless as they will never fight but i guarantee you that the 'type of fight' and this is the point that you are missing, the type of fight that Hopkins drags you into is a totally different type of fight than Joe or Kessler has ever been in. You must also consider that Joe is going to have to travel to america for this fight, for his whole career, hes been able to prepare exactly the same way in Wales, Same training camp and same routine, for this fight its a change of location, a change of training routine and a totally change of atmosphere in the lead up and on fight night itself, history shows this can have an effect on a fighter and probably will on a guy like Joe who is changing his routine so late on in his career .. Your not taking these things into account, i still have Joe winning the fight as he is a skilled operator but some of you guys are expecting a walkover, it aint gonna happen, its gonna be close

i slightly misread your question, that maybe why my answer looks odd. the first part should read..

i believe that a younger bernard should/would have beaten winky handily at that weight.

wow someone is on my side. people get way too defensive here, especially the calzaghe fanatics.

when did I ever say tha bernard would win? in fact, i said calzaghe has the edge BUT. this WILL BE the toughest fight calzaghe has EVER faced.
