Odd BUT! Another way to look at it is maybe once he realised he couldn’t crack an egg and he himself was a granite egg perhaps he found the only way to cash in on fame and being in the annals of history was to become the most losing man in the sports history? Mr Reliable was only good for one thing a guaranteed victory... 99.9% of the time anyways...

People tell me i'm crazy to suggest "pro boxing is rigged", but it's difficult to explain how a man can lose 279 fights out of 300 and only 5 of those losses being stoppages, unless there's some deliberateness there. 279 losses in 4 and 6 round fights, and still losing to novices you will never hear of, throughout his career. How does a fighter become 'skillful' enough to go the distance even in short fights, but still "reliable" to lose to any new nobody kid from nowhere? It's highly unlikely. Laight's nickname was even "MR. RELIABLE" But boxing fans don't care. It's accepted. The problem is, some of you are kidding yourselves if you think it's not happening on a more subtle scale, at higher levels. Then, we have those other guys, who get KO'd early like 30 fights in a row. As if they genuinely get KO'd 30 times .... it's unlikely. Certainly, even a stupid man would start to 'take the dive' once his streak hits 5 or 10 at most.
