    Bull****.

Like everything useful, there is a potential to outlive youur usefulness. De la hoya should have quit years ago. It is because of the potential to land the "superfight with De la Hoya" that we have been cheated out of some of the biggest potential matchups in this sport.

Retire already. You cannot beat anyone of note, and even the average fan can see that you are a farce. His appeal is not to the casual fan. It is just the spectacle. Do not underestimate the desire for people to actually see good boxing, and world champions who deserve to be there.

Boxing does not need these superfights to carry it. It is alive and well, and only someone with a Ameri-centric point of view would believe otherwise. The boxing world will be a better place when we are rid of this weight on its shoulders.

Ok, Lets go over a few things.

    1. OSCAR DE LA HOYA IS NOT BIGGER THAN BOXING. He is not bigger than the sport. Others have had their time, and went as well, others GREATER than de la Hoya.

1-a. Ali. Leonard. Hagler. Hearns. Duran. Holyfield. Tyson. Holmes. These are some examples of great champions who got old on us. It's tragic and I hate it, but a fact of life and of our sport.

    2. Oscar de la Hoya is bad for boxing. He did the sport a DISSERVICE last Saturday, Cinco de Mayweather 2007, one week removed. PBF was sitting right there, and CHALLENGING the Golden Greed to an instant Rematch. Oscar should have accepted.

    3. Oscar should have chosen Margarito. Would he have still lost? Maybe, but the mother****er now has egg all over his face, for picking on a smaller man and getting his Golden Ass handed to him.

    4. I am still FURIOUS about the 54.95, call your local cable operators GBP crap. :fire:deal

Obviously, you're 100% objective and fair when talking about The Golden Boy, eh Jack?
Did he sleep with your hotter, younger sister back in the day?

ODLH is a farce most of his early career success involved him winning the WBOGUS title, which was lightly regarded in that time and still should be as we talk, anyway after his fight with Forbes he should've went back to 154 and fought Margo, it would've been a winnable fight IMO.

Great article, points I have been trying to get across myself, but you did better. To those saying bull**** and that he was bad for the sport, I say you are wrong. Bad for the sport being the way you want it? Well we can't always have that, without people like Oscar De Le Hoya, the sport would fade away.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but I'm still going to :huh at the thought of Margo being a more winable fight for Oscar than Pacquiao was.

he still struggles with english and he isnt american but pac is such an entertaining fighter( he was always like a little mike tyson imo) the he is the liley canidate to be the next big superstar in the game. he already hit that level in his homeland years ago but in the states, its possible if hes markted right.

How someone can defend Oscar as "boxing savior" is beyond me. If anything, his antics is what is driving some people away from the sport. People want to see the sport, see good matchups from deserved champions, and not have to pay out the ass for it.

He is bad for boxing. Period. He was not the "great champion" like some of the others you mentioned. Far from it. He was a very good fighter - nothing more, nothing less. He is a great businessman. But that isn't what boxing necessarily needs. It needs to get back to basics and put good fighters in the ring with one another and let them fight.

Does Manny have all the attributes needed to be the Golden Boy of boxing? Is he really that marketable? How many more years of superfights does he have left in him? Is he American? I'm not saying he won't be, so why you feel the need to call me a dick, I don't know, personally, I would say someone like Cotto is the next Golden Boy.
