    He actually does know what he's talking about, him being a professional boxer at a rather high level and all.

    Bollocks (unless you're being sarcastic, in which case I apologise). Of course olympic lifts and stuff like deadlifts and squats are the best compound exercises about, everyone knows that. But how can you say that 'there's no need to invent new things'?! If everyone lived like that then powerlifting itself wouldn't even be around.

    Another massively important part of any weightlifting schedule is variation and this is a highly flexible, safe, compound exercise to mix things up a bit.
