The Debate on Levels: How do you see it!

I would move a lot of your world level fighters like froch, Dawson and Martinez to elite level. The only guys above them are the best of the best, creme de la creme, the elite of the elite, the atg. And at this moment in time we have mayweather and pacquiao.

 

What about Prospects?

Dawson is fringe level imho.

I agree with pac and pbf being the creme or the crop. These pair both are in the top 50 atg for me. Top fighters the pair of them. Below them is Donaire, Martinez and the winner of Ward v Froch.

 

A prospect works his way up the levels and starts off as unlisted and then on to domestic if they win or journeyman if they lose too often I suppose.

 

Have no problem with this. Groves beat a domestic fighter in a very close fight and degale beat a european level guy more clearly IMO than Groves beat him.

Prospects are weird because they may be clearly levels above the domestic competition they are fighting but then throwing them in with fringe world class operators would be suicide as they lack the experience.

Katsidis is the definition of fringe world class imo.

I find it strange when people say that Khan hasn't really fought in world class. "World class" is pretty easy to define.

 

I'd define World Class as top 5 of each division, but it'd only be for that division(example: Geale is a world class middleweight...not a world class fighter... if that makes sense.)

 

Thats an interesting point, the downside to that is that in todays current climate, A pregnant Latvian could well be Number 4 or 5 in the rankings.

 

Heres my versions. It may slightly differ from Mandandas but ill explain as I go:

Elite Level

Boxers who have dominated their division and have little challengers left other than other elite level performers (obviously can have exceptions with weight jumpers who have proved their level but are in the same weight as other elite levels)

Yeah, I tend to think top 10 but agree with the principle of the likes of Geale.:good

 

World level

Boxers who have consistently beat the best in their division over a couple of years or more but haven't either cleaned out their division or had the top quality competition to jump to elite level.

"World class" to me means boxers that fight and win at the top end of their division.

 

Fringe World Level/Contenders

Boxers who are boxing top ten contenders and have a combination of wins over a period of a couple of years. Losses to those in above categories are accepted as well as against other contenders in this section:
