The Debate on Levels: How do you see it!

world class IMHO.

 

Yeah, but you can blur the lines a bit and have boxers who around that level. I may have some a level below but can easily jump within a fight. I just try and seperate the elite from the proven world class to belt holders. I can be sceptical at times when it comes to boxing as you get a lot of boxers avoiding challenges (as you know).

The likes of Burns and Bute for example have shown skills that rightly put them at world level but have faced opposition that have not been at that level. As soon as they fight someone at the same level then i can accept them as a world level performer.

yeah I can agree but politics sort of put them back a bit for me. Its probably more a case of world level A and world level B rather than world level and fringe. They are all at the top but some have done a lot more than others.

 

Yeah Im a bit strict with the way I rank them but as I said the bridges are easier to gap in a couple of fights, I just need more convincing than other people do.

Bute is a tough one Mand, I struggle to put him in the world class category even though he clearly is, he's not proved himself yet IMO.

 

Manny Pac, fringe world class...?

 

Bika, which is probably Bute's best win I would consider fringe world class same as Andrade, who gave him fits in the first fight, OK its about leaning your trade but ive seen nothing from Bute that suggests he could cope with Froch or Kesslers pressure, let alone Wards.

 

The world class Bute beat the fringe world class Magee.

 

Your right Magee was, I don't wish to be harsh on Magee but he is fringe at best and in the later rounds Bute showed the difference in ring iq and class and got him out of there, I feel when he really does step up against a froch or dirrell for that matter, his lack of big fights will count against him and will come unstuck?

 

Oh well, that didn't work. The DVD player in the bedroom was broke so the missus sent me back downstairs. Wriggling about thinking about boxers levels too much i think (joke).

Proven at continental level but haven't made the step up to world level. Or boxers on the move the other way - who have been at world level but are no longer there:

Evander Holyfield (may prove me wrong but I believe he would be around this level if he fought against some young boxers coming up)
Monte Barrett
Ismayl Sillakh - moving up and I don't expect him to be here long (I bet I get stick for this one)

Lovemore Ndou
James Kirkland - could be a level above but I'm not convinced yet
