The Decline Of Mayweather ?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by DogTheBountyMan, Mar 26, 2012.

  1. Did not look great vs Ortiz. Yes he won every round or at least 3 and Ortiz would have gotten his head knocked off later, but Ortiz landed more than thought.
Sparring a little off today - Dont now what to make of this yet
Now he is older and been little inactive. Should we prepare oursleves for inevitable decline from here ?
Is Cotto going to be a bigger challange then we tohught ?

Not stating just askin' Big props for making this fight May 5th. IMO best fight in years.
Schooling of Mosley, Ortiz and Cotto consec would be crazy

I think it's to be expected that Mayweather wont be getting any better from here on out. He's already slowed down in the handspeed and footspeed department considerably (which he's made up for by becoming a stronger welterweight than ever before), but I think we will see him start to fade bit by bit in every fight. I favor him over Cotto pretty clearly (despite me really wanting to see the opposite outcome), but who knows? Cotto could very well give him real difficulty.

its sparring , doesnt mean anything . Floyd had already started declining physically years ago. Cotto does have a real shot, and always has. It's really a question of how much Cotto has left, not Floyd.

Yes he is definitely declining, probably has 2 more fights left at the top level. Fortunately for him Cotto is absolutely shot and is out of his depth. Lets not forget this is the Cotto that was outboxed by ****ing Clottey.

  7. Something should be noted about Cotto at 150 + he has 3 wins in a row coming here all where he stopped his opponnent late rd 9, 10,12 without being knocked down and was up by serval rounds on all cards in each fight.
Floyd inactivity and late round power are recipe for disaster.
Cotto has looked good. I do not see him being shot. Fighters win and lose that is what they do and are built for it. At 32 Cotto has another 2 years of solid performances even if he loses here.
dangerous fight at 154. he could be extra loose here with nothing to lose attitude.

I think he peaked in the Hatton or maybe the Mosley fight. He is smarter these days, just not as physically gifted. If anything his skills have gone up rather than down recently.

  9. I believe he peaked in the Gatti fight. that was something.
Slight signs of decline in ODLH on with extra decline in Mosley and Oritz.

He walked straight into the gym, stretched for a couple minutes while putting his stuff on and sparred right away and got better as it went on

  11. he did come on crazy from second half of rd 4 and rd 5 took his partner to SCHOOL.

Sparring is sparring, first of all. Second of all, he looked just fine against Ortiz. He was in against a young guy with physical advantages and took him to school.

  13. I didnt expect ortiz to land like he did in rd 4. floyd i know would have not needed to trade like that and used his jab to punish ortiz.
needed some more rounds the sucker punch could come back to haunt him.
would have loved to see the classic adjustment and straight up school ortiz rd 5-7 and put him to sleep in the 8th or 9th.
having 4 rounds in 2 years coming in vs a fit 154 Cotto is no walk in park

For Gods Sakes, That last flurry on the ropes that victor had, was nothing, He landed 3 solid shots, at MOST that entire round.
