The cruiserweight divsion in great shape right now. My top 10 in no particular order are:

    1. The Ding A Ling Man - great punch (either hand) and chin, deceiving speed and is a sharp counter puncher. Needs better aerobic and anaerobic conditioning
    2. David Haye - Big hitter, fast hands, good ability although he may be moving up.
    3. Herbie Hide - the man can truly crack, hurt Riddick Bowe as a heavy years ago.
    4. Jonathan Banks - solid boxer puncher
    5. Emmanuel Nwodo - throws daggers and is fast, dangerous to anyone
    6. Matt Godfrey - fast hands, natural talent
    7. Enzo Maccarinelli - another big puncher
    8. Marco Huck - will know more after Cunningham, I think he's solid
    9. Steve Cunningham - tall with skills, not a puncher
    10. Firat (Borat) Arslin - short, strong, busy and aggressive. Not a huge hitter and gets hit.

    Worth a mention:

O'Neil Bell - takes a great shot, is a very tough guy with heart and can give anyone a tough night when he's "on." Can be unfocused and outhustled.:smoke:smoke

    Dude, I've been saying this for years. Imagine if the following fighters had stayed at or around cruiserweight instead of going to heavy;

    evander holyfield
    michael moorer
    chris byrd
    juan carlos gomez
    vasssily jirov
    james toney
    roy jones jnr

**** the division would be the best in boxing if those guys had stuck around. Far more interesting than the heavy's.

I agree, this division has more great match-up possibilities than any other IMO. I'd like to see The Contender do a season in this class, that would be awesome! :good

yes there are very interesting potential match-ups at cruiser.

lets see who Macarinelli fights next.......the guy is a bit of a joke at the moment. If he fights another can it's time to ignore him.

No one was saying this 4 years ago.Back then cruiser was a wasteland and full of fat light heavys and small heavyweights. Its never been much of a glamour divison and more of a stop over for light heavys going to heavyweight.Times have changed.

Cruiser is where its at! (well, except for the welters i suppose) I love the cruisers. These matchups are always exciting and usually end up in a knockout. I am extremley happy they raised the limit to 200. I think that was a great move. I think Godfrey has a chance to take it all, I like this kid.

How do you see a fight with Godfrey and Huck playing out?

    I rate Huck pretty highly

Definitely a major player, should beat Cunningham in a fairly close fight

Good thread! The cruiser weight division is one of the hottest at present-lots of promising and good fighters there.

The great Cuban talent Yoan Hernandez fights at cruiser, and so does Czech silver olympic medalist Rudolf Kraj(will soon face Godfrey in a final eliminator) and undefeated German based Alexander Frenkel.
Grigory Drozd will very soon get another shot at a world title ,too.
He is a great boxer, but ran out of gas against Arslan.
And last but not least Alexander Alexeev fights at cruiser.
I bet my house that he is the next long reigning undisputed king of the castle at cruiser weight. His firepower is awesome. He was Solis' biggest rival at the amateurs, and his murderous firepower was feared then.
All in all a great weight division with lots of good fighters!
A true shame that fight fans and tv channels tend to neglect this very interesting weight division. It really deserves more media attention and its fighters bigger paychecks!

I like the cruiserweight division as well. It's been quietly one of the better divisions in boxing.

I don't understand why HBO never puts them on, especially on one of those undercards. I know they have to put on some hispanic fighters to appeal to that audience, but everybody likes seeing big guys fight, and I doubt any of those cruisers would break the bank for an opportunity to get seen by a wider audience.

Personally I think if HBO wanted to do so, they could make the division as exciting and interesting the heavyweight division has been in the past. And if you look at the size of the guys, 200 lb fighters resemble the heavyweights of old a lot more than the current heavies who are all like 12'3" 6,000 lbs.

You forgot Andre Purlett. Too bad none of them are getting the fans excited.

yo ding! I thought you would chime in on this thread sooner or later :rofl . I see 'too smooth' being too slick for huck. Matt has a great right hand and I think he will find his mark with this shot all night on huck. Huck is not going to hit anything cause matt has great defense. godfrey ud 12. Huck is a good body puncher though, so that is going to be his only saving grace if he can land early and start to hurt 'too smooth'. It just seems to me that huck leaves himself open for shots.
