Povetkin was very nervous and also didnt prepare well for this fight.I think its just too hard for someone like Povetkin to win decision vs Wlad with such size difference and also impossible to get on the inside and land something big. One of the most disappointing and ugliest clinch fests ever.
Just because he was 40 . Oh and he was still able to crack british glass . Superior british breed lol just lol, brits can’t fight in general, no wrestling skills, pretty much any russian kid beats brit.
There is a great video of this fight on YouTube that someone here posted a few months back. It highlighted all the holding and fouling Wlad was doing to nullify Povetkin on the inside and not allow him to work. This is the strategy of Wlad 2.0 in the tough fights on the inside. The Wlad 1.0 who was bounced around like a golf ball by Corrie Saunders would have been stopped by that version of Povetkin without a doubt. Ultimately if the referee lets you get away with it then it’s legal. You can’t cry waa waa tears afterwards- you need to have a tactic to deal with it in the fight.
Wlad undoubtedly clinched excessively. Those blaming Povetkin for this don't know what they are talking about. There times when it seems Povetkin is rushing in and placing his head under Wlad's elbow but that's not what is happening, how does that benefit Povetkin? What is happening is Wlad is turning his body like a matador and so Povetkin's forward momentum moves him under his armpit where he can lean down on him. And there are also so many times when Wlad clearly extends his left arm to push down on Povetkin. Povetkin isn't in close range then he's at mid range, but even then Wlad smothers him. A fighter with an inside game here would use the left to keep there head there and throw the uppercut like Lewis used to do, as Wlad has no uppercut to speak off, he just puts his full weight on Povetkin everytime when in this position. When else has Povetkin ever had a fighter clinch him so much? Wlad has a history of clinching he did it more here because he had a fighter that was very adept and coming inside on him. Wlad's poor lateral movement saw Povetkin find it very easy to get into range on Wlad and so Wlad was forced to clinch in response. Had a different ref been in place it would of been a different fight, doesn't mean Povetkin would of won but he would of definitely been more competitive and forced Wlad to use more movement than he likes and work at a pace he might not have been comfortable with. But having said all that, Wlad did what he had to do to win. The win is all that matters in elite sport, the fact he stunk out the place again with his performance like he did vs Haye, is irrelevant as the W on his record is what matters most. That's a winners mentality, it may not be pretty, may not be exciting but it's what has to be done to secure the win.
Tbqh watching the fight then and watching it now I felt they both basically clinched the **** out of each other, there was no real worse party. I felt Povetkin was clinching just as much as Wlad. But oh well, it’s in the past boys
Too much clinching in that fight, but Vlad was the very best at that time and had Joshua out on his feet most of their fight, could have knocked Joshua out at age 41, but the Vlad that fought Povetkin would have easily knocked out Joshua.......................Povetkin has won every fight he has had except that one...........remember, Wilder had to cheat to get out of fighting Povetkin, Wilder if afraid, so is Haymon...............
Klitschko definitely put pressure on and pressed on down on the head/neck. A lot. But these are savvy moves. Ali made a living off it. Old man Wlad did too. Povetkin did disappoint in that there was no Plan B to it. And losing every round.
Povetkin said he was beaten by the better man after the fight. He didn't complain about "unfair tactics". It was Povetkin who rushed in head first like a mountain goat. He knew that, some posters here don't understand that.
Wlad 1.0 punched with 100% intention. Wlad 2.0 punched at about 50% and he had Povetkin doing this This content is protected
Exactly this referee (Pabon) helped Povetkin in his fight against Huck and was criticised heavyly by Marco and his team afterwards.
