Here's a couple of things that I see as "Not so bad for boxing". I felt compelled to post this because I've seen a lot of people speaking very harshly about the following matters. Please feel free to criticize and/or add to my list. #1. DLH vs. PBF II. Is it such a travesty that these 2 Marquis fighters are giving it another go? I know we'd all like to see either of these guys fight Miguel Cotto rather than each other but I don't think this is such a horrible consolation prize. Besides, I believe Cotto will get one of these guys sooner than later. IF IT MAKES DOLLARS, it makes sense. What's good for the welfare of the sport is not always what you (boxing diehards) want to see most. #2. Max Kellerman Whilst many pine for the stoic and slurred ramblings of Loveable Larry Merchant, his replacement is under much scrutiny here on ESB. Is he annoying, irritating, hyper, biased? YES. But more importantly, he is passionate about the sport and he is a voice in the "Mainstream" sports media. His ESPNRadio show has many listeners and he and partner Brian Kenny always seem to work boxing into each daily program. Can't say the same for any other broadcasters. Again, what's good for the welfare of the sport is not always what you want to see most. More to come...
There is no need for a DLH -PBF rematch EXCEPT for the cash. Its like marrying for money instead of love. Its just wrong. If Kellerman deserves to be on HBO just because he's passionate about boxing, then I deserve to be married to Jennifer Lopez, because I feel the same way about her.
DeLaHoya has no chance; what can he possibly do different this time? Replay of the first fight except Mayweather UD 12.
Are you Golden Boy's accountant? Why do you care so much? If you are trying to say what I think you are, it's not good for boxing. Getting big numbers because Oscar De La Fishnets is some sort of idol isn't good for boxing, it simply means we get more meaningless matches justified by money
i agree alot of people are alot more pissed at PBF and ODLH fighting each other than they would be if both stayed inactive which makes NO SENSE AT ALL. I will not watch Old Man Oscar vs Joy Boy Floyd but I don't mind the fight
Its not just the money. Do you realize how many NON boxing fans watched the first one? Its about attracting an audience....and there is no way Cotto-Floyd would do that as well as Oscar-Floyd.
Correct me if I'm wrong ---Non boxing fans who account for the bulk of PPV would be more easily hooked into becoming real fans if their initiation into boxing was seeing and enjoying the excitement of toe to toe exchanges possibly a knock down or 2 ---as its only later that fans learn to appreciate tactical battles where all too often fighters give each other 2 much respect-----You need Nielsens or someone to do a survey of those that watched the 1st fight---I reckon the majority would say 'it sucks---too boring'------problem is theres another new million new fans that will buy the next fight just because of the hype and names involved..:smoke :smoke
