He is too aggressive for Jones. It would be similar to Tyson vs. Spinks. Tyson vs Jones would've been similar to Tyson Spinks. It's just like Atlas talked in regard to the Tyson vs Jones match-up. Atlas said Jones doesn't have enough to keep Mike off him, and he will be easily defeated. He said it would be bad for the division because it would have renewed peoples' faith in Mike Tyson. I don't know about it being bad for the divison, but the first part is true. Same with Dempsey. Jones couldn't keep him off. Toney is a different story. You are usually made to look like fool if you press him. He has the best chance. Just remember the Holyfield fight. The first round Evander won. The rest of the rounds didn't look that much different, but Toney won most all of them before the stoppage. Evander either lost a little steam on his shots, or Toney was taking the better. I don't think Jack would lose steam as fast.
Jones was a bigger puncher than Tunney so did have enough to keep him off and more importantly off balance and missing
Didn't Greb more or less do this to Dempsey twice? Man seemed to be his kryptonite, more so than Tunney could even claim.
Yup I agree 100%^^ I love how people like to discredit fighters of the past... bottomline is these guy's were in real fight's when you had to FIGHT. hardley any fighter's from this era fit that discription, they would not last.
You do realise Atlas has the worst record for picking big fights, every fight he picks the wrong winner. I think RJJ could win a UD against Dempsey. RJJ would be very hard to land on and he'd counter Dempsey time and again with flush shots. Dempsey may just be able to close the gapand land something from his combos but this is an interesting match up
I'm not sure that I'd pick very many middleweights to just enter the ring at their usual 160 Lbs, and beat Jack Dempsey, but I might pick a few to actually move up in weight and give him some problems. Ezzard Charles would have been a son of a ***** for Dempsey to beat, once Charles had reached the lightheavyweight/heavyweight perameters. He was very tricky to catch, a brilliant boxer and could take a great punch. For anyone who doesn't think that Charles could tango with Big heavyweight and lightheavyweight punchers, they need to look at his fights with Rocky Marciano, Joe Louis, Joe Walcott, and Archie Moore. I'm not sure that this answers the question of the thread, as I realize we're talking about middleweights going up against Dempsey. But, if a former middleweight like Charles who moved up in weight counts in this discussion, then I'll give Ezzard a fair chance..
