They aren't winning any titles with that style, and poor Nate caught a punch in the eye during that opening round. He was devasted at that post fight conference. Last night proved that the brothers can't do their thing in the cage. It is now or never for them.
Nate just fought for the LW title. Nick just fought for the WW interim title, and it looks like he will be fighting for the real WW title next. I think they do fine in the cage.
Like I said, they aren't winning any titles. If they started Boxing they would have more success. Greater sums of $$$ and huge fights would lie ahead.
I'll have you know that most fighters in the UFC aren't winning titles, even some very good/great ones. It's just what happens when there is only only title per weightclass. They will both be remembered as very good mixed martial artists, even if neither win a UFC belt.
Both the Diaz brothers do have a punching style that is decent for UFC cage fighting since most of the fighters I've seen lack good punching technique and rely on their overall grappling, ground and pound and punching in their fights. They would be exposed in the boxing ring as rank amateurs with that upright, half power punching, wide open guard style.
I will not deny the Diaz brothers' boxing is some of the most effective boxing in the entire sport but, as is, wouldn't translate even remotely well over to professional boxing.
