    Nuthugger
    • Buys into the hype machine hook line and sinker. Never questions shady matchups, title relevancy and quality of opponents.
    • Does not view his fighter with any objectivity. Believes that his fighter is so supreme that he doesn't have to prove himself in the ring against the best competition. Will never admit that another fighter might have the tools or the style to beat his idol.
    • Lacks the intelligence, or boxing knowledge to debate their opinions with any civility or class. Resorts to name calling and insults after he gets repeatedly embarrassed for his stupidity or for often misquoting stats, records, etc.
    • In other words, a nuthugger is a sheep and a bandwagon jumper that lets hype and marketing do his thinking for him. He jumps on whatever guy's nuts that is viewed at the time as "unbeatable".
    A Fan
    • A fan understands that everyone is beatable, but routes for his guy not because he always wins or loses, but because he likes the guys style, persona, story, nationality, skills or respects the fact that the guy will take on all comers.
    • A fan doesn't stop being a fan just because his guy loses a fight and remains a fan through thick and thin.
    • A fan doesn't buy into all the hype and will question his fighters actions and choice of opponents.
    • A fan can be objective about his fighters performance and admit when he lost.
    • In other words a fan loyally routes for a fighter and wants to see him win, but win legitamately against the best competition. A fan doesn't just ditch his fighter after a loss, appreciating the fact that the guy had the guts to challenge himself and also give the fans their money's worth.
There seems to be a whole lot of nuthuggers on ESB and a shortage true fans. Its a shame because the nuthugger mentality is part of whats wrong with boxing today. If we had more fans that demanded more of their favorite fighters and boycotted these lousy big money, big name, big dissappointment PPV fights, more of the top fighters would be forced to face each other. Anyway, thats just how I see it. Thoughts?

let me spell it out without all the mumbo-jumbo.

a fan can post his opinion without labelling an opposing point of view - but he can challenge it and he can respond if the other person believes in what he says and posts likewise.

anyone who calls someone a 'nuthugger' to bolster their argument has lost already if they are debating me.

The problem with your thread is that every nuthugger will agree with your definition.

Anytime you want to debate you let me know. I equate nuthugging with a total lack of objectivity. That was the point to this thread.

Sure, this site has it's fill of nuthuggers, but it's also loaded with internet thugs who'll label anyone that disagrees with them a nuthugger. Last week I was labeled a nuthugger in a thread where in my first post I conceded several points to the op, disagreed with others and stated why, and was practically the only poster on my side of the issue who wasn't in there to just insult every one else. Granted, the op saw through the bull****, but still.

It basically comes down to someone dealing with their favorite fighter, and one person leaning towards an extreme then the other coming back on the other side of the extreme.

Don't know about nuthugger but...someone calling himself "The Truth" is suspect.

if you can do that - then people are just responding because they don't know what to say.

some people adopt an online persona so its just a balance between putting your views forward and calling them out.

I agree with you. There are a lot of people that will label you a nuthugger if you route for a fighter, but my problem is not if you strongly support your fighter...its if you do it in a way that lacks any type of objectivity, you use opinion more than facts and you resort to internet thuggery, calling people "bitches and pussies" and all a that. You sound like an intelligent guy with a well formulated opinion nad I respect that.
