Both have their fair share of dodgy decision but in the MMA when a fighter apparently loses and gets the decision it's due to the problematic scoring system more than hometown bias. Also, the MMA officials themselves speak out about the poor decision and there's a continual effort to improve the judging. They don't have sockpuppets towing the party line. This is one of the reasons why casual fans worldwide are turning more to MMA.
If MMA was genuinely popular worldwide then you'd still get hometown decisions in it, unless it was all fairly organised by one governing body.
Well the other thing is that they're are less MMA judges to go round...so you tend to get the same judges working the big UFC shows whether they're in Vegas or Quebec.
Plus MMA typically has closed shop promotion i.e. one promoter. Whoever wins the promoter controls them!
I travel a lot and have been seeing it more and more on regular TV in all sorts of countries. Random people talk about it.
I think more money to go around in boxing results in more corruption.. This can happen to MMA someday.
Firstly ive seen plenty of MMA fights There are good and bad sides to centralisation. Of course there are the obvious benefits in marketing, matchmaking, etc. but there are problems aswell. If there is one promoter operating at many levels above its competitors which is where we are at now with the UFC then what happens if a fighter has a falling out with the company. Paul Daley for example is a legitmate top 10-15 WW and is exciting to watch is kicked out of the only promoter. Lets not forget this is an entertainment sport and i would rather watch Daley fight Alves in a fairly irrelevant titlewise fight than watch Fitch or GSP hold someone on the ground for 3/5rounds. Not that i cant appreciate the skills involved but its just not exciting and i dont care if he ****ed up at the end of the koschek fight slap him on the wrist then get him back in. Drug cheats are the only people i think should get kicked out of the sport for. Also as weve seen it encourages a safety first style of fight and it really isnt that fiar to the fighters when someone has a monopoly like that over the sport. As said before once the money is there and there are more judges we will likely see more corruption. Also the number of rounds makes it harder to have more room for interpretation.
Daley didn't just fallout with the promoter, he committed assault on a fellow competitor and was completely unrepentant about it afterwards.
I understand I really do and it was unnacceptable and he should be punished no arguement. Strip him of his purse ban him for a while, but if he apologises let him back in. There are fighters who have been caught as drug cheats still active and personally i find that a more heinous crime as its premeditated, dangerous for them and their opponent and just ruins the sporting aspect. Daley committed assault YES but it was in the heat of the moment after a fight. I didnt realise he hadnt apologised and until he does yes he shouldnt be allowed in the UFC- thanks for bringing that to my attention mr cooling.
Really, like what? I've seen The Smashing Machine, and all the fighters seemed to be unaware about some rule changes around 99-00, but I don't think that's what you're referring to.
