Boxing is all about perception. There were high valued posters believing Holyfield had a chance to regain a title when he fought Ibragimov. Then he got shut out and he was shot.
Then he fights Valuev, people think he won, and he was still pretty good.

People go on about McCall never being down as a pro, but by his own admission Tyson has decked him at least five times in sparring. In the same way that it is common knowledge Lamon Brewster flattned Lewis in sparring...

Lewis' chin was good enough for him to win THE Heavyweight Championship of the World twice, and be able to say that every fighter who he ever fought as a pro, he beat.

No one else in Queensberry Rules can say that about themselves...

 

I understand your point but thats part of the what ifs that we always discuss on these boards. What if this guy punched harder, what if these guys boxed more?
Theres more to it with Lewis, not only was he knocked out twice, but he was wobbled and hurt on several occasions, his chin was not grade A.

It really depends how closely you follow the sport. If you do watch a fighter closely you would know that Mayweather has been hit and wobbled badly three times in his career, suggesting to me with all his defensive wizardry, that his chin is not great, but decent. Good enough to get him through those dangerous spots but I would guess he could be knocked out if he was hit like Lewis was comparably speaking. I dont think that really makes me a weirdo, just someone who looks at the sport a little closer. If you asked a casual boxing fan what they thought of Lennox Lewis chin, they wouldn't even have a clue.
