Leonard/Hagler is about the worst comparison, ever. Yes money talks, but there is also merit.

Khan has barely done anything worth talking about that would give him the right to jump up and claim title shot.

Get real. Leonard had never fought at middleweight and had been retired for 3 years and yet he gets a shot ahead of active middleweights? Between Leonard, Hearns and Mugabi the middleweight title was off limits to middleweight condenders for the best part of 3 years.

Its not a comparision to Khan-Kotelnik, its showing that money makes the fights.

No ****. But Leonard was also a somebody, inactive or not. There was money, yes this was the main reason it was made, but Leonard had also done something in the past that made sense.

Khan is a nobody, in achievement terms. He's done nothing. It's cherrypicking at its absolute worst.

But it was still money that made that fight happen. Thats the bottom line, I'd have thought people would have gotten their heads around this fact by now.

Are you in one of your little "moods" tonight?

It doesn't make it right, everything the thread starter said is true.

They are a bunch of cherrypickers.

I don't have moods, only logic.

So what are we to do about this great injustice?

We can't do anything about it I'm afraid except voice our opinions on a boxing forum. Maybe we could launch a protest at Bolton Town Hall but I doubt they'd listen.

It is boxing, you are never going to get logic and justice, that is half the fun of the sport!

Why are people crying? There have been far bigger travesties in this corrupt sport. It didnt begin with Khan getting a WBA title shot. The real issue people seem to have I think is the real possibility that Khan may well become a holder of a legitimate World Title, something which many people believed would never ever happen. Call it what you like, but the reality is.... its genius match-making from Ol Fish Eyes.

No use crying. It has been, is and will always go on.

As for setting up an independent adjudicator for all the sports governing bodies. Hmm, let me see. An organisation that has power to call the shots over all the major sanctioning bodies. Nobody involved with that would be ripe for a few backhanders then eh? It would be even worse than what we have now

We've just got to live with what we've got. End of story

Gavin Rees fought for the same title immediately after beating Billy "Gypsy Boy" Smith, who is:

Haha, I'd forgotten that Rees won the WBA title, he was so undeserving I think I've mentally downgraded it to WBU.

Had only had two fights scheduled for more than 8 rounds in his career and, of nine opponents before fighting MBaye only one had a better than 50% record in their previous 6 fights.

Agree with all the above, a champion choosing to fight the opponent who generates the biggest available payday is hardly new to the sport. I'm not really a Khan fan, and I think he will lose, but I actually hope he can pull it off as there does seem to be a growing sense of panic amongst the critics/haters, as they begin to come to terms with the fact that Amir might actually become a legitimate title holder. (though, if it had been the WBO the amount of 'WBO doesn't count' stick he'd have got would have been funny :yep)
