o.k. so I am ready to admit after 8 years that I was wrong about this fight. I have always argued vigorously that it was a horrible robbery. I hadn't watched it since the first time when I saw it live. I finally watched it again just now and here's what I have to say. DLH did not win the first 9 rounds like I thought in the past. the first round could have been called for either guy. DLH landed a single right hand to the head and Tito landed a single left hook to the body, those were the only meaningfull punches landed in the entire round. 2 and 3 were also very close rounds and I can see how they may have been scored for Tito. I still feel that Oscar won the fight but by a thin margin. I still think that had there not been so much controversy about Oscar's previous decisions he may have been given the nod here as the judges would not have been so scared to score any close round for him. But I am now willing to accept the official decision and acknowledge that this was not even close to being the worse decision I have ever seen.
All I remember from seing the fight that Oscar was dominating Tito and was clearly outboxing him from the start. Most people going for Tito at the bar I was at were surprised ass hell also.
I thought the same thing also and there were rounds where thiswas the case. Round 5 for example was a very clear Oscar round but there were a lot of very close rounds in that fight.
I don't think there was any myth to it. I was routing for Trinidad in that fight but from what I saw, Tito clearly lost that night. His face at the end of the fight told it all. It was a legitimate robbery....but the Felix Sturm robbery was even worse so I really don't have much pity for Oscar.
Another myth is that DLH's corner told him to run and give away those rounds. Watch the DLH corner and you hear them clearly say "box, box, box", not "run, just simply stay away". One of them, I think Alcazar, you can clearly see him say "make sure that they know you won the round"
oscar lost 2 minutes 52 seconds of round 2 in then landed a three punch flurry at the end of the round,I agree with all three judges scoring the round for tito.By the way bollocks to compubox:good
thats what i was trying to tell people but gave up lol... i watched the fight again like a year and a half ago and when i saw it, right off the bat i believe i gave tito 1 of the first 3 rounds.... Im not saying hoya didnt win, but it was FAR from an 'easy' victory by oscar.... the announcers had it fairly close and george foreman, oscars biggest nuthugger, even said he wouldnt want to be a judge this night. that being said it was still amazing boxing early on by oscar, no shame in not being able to keep it up the whole fight
round 1 even(one of the most even rounds I ever saw round 2 tito clearly round 3 oscar clearly round 4 tito close round 5 oscar clearly round 6 oscar clearly round 7 oscar clearly round 8 even(tito landed a few good left hooks in this round and blocked alot of oscars don't listen to lampley) round 9 oscar close round 10 tito close round 11 tito clearly round 12 tito clearly extremely close decision 115-115.Watched the fight 3 times in the last two years.I am a Trinidad fan so I always try not to have him losing.I originally had 116-114 trinidad.
