If this fight goes ahead between manny catchweight pacquiao or Cotto this fight would be much more exciting and mean much more if it was at 147 for a title plus if pac beat him at 147 then there is no denying that all pac would have to do to solidify his legacy is to beat Mayweather and then he could safely retire with nothing else to prove.

    Thoughts???

And just for record **** catchweights that involve a fighter draining themself to make weight.

Meet at a fair catchweight and Its all good.

Whether you agree or disagree this is a boxing forum and that is what we are all here for to give differing opinions on boxing

I agree the fight should be at 147. Cotto was killing himself at 140 so making him come down is out of the question even at a catchweight of 143 or so. He won't be 100% at that weight and Pac won't get credit if he wins. Manny has fought at 147 before against Oscar and looked good as far as his speed and power are concerned so why not fight at 147 where there could be no excuses?

There will always be something to prove. Even if Pac knocks out Floyd in 3 rounds there will still be doubters and other fighters to fight.

only a fool would think that beating Cotto won't solidify Pacquiao's legacy wether its at a catchweight or not.

But for many people, there would be an excuse: Cotto was too big.

Personally I think people are making too big a deal out of it.

In the end, the people that would know best if Cotto would be able to fight well at a catchweight is Cotto's team. They don't have to agree if they feel Cotto would be a "zombie" at a certain weight. By agreeing to any weight, it means that Cotto and his team feels that they still have a good chance of winning at that weight. And personally, I would take their opinion on the matter over any poster here in the forums. It's not as if Cotto has no other potential fights.

I'll just repost something I wrote in another thread, I'm too lazy...

In all honesty PAC could have retired after beating JMM and he'd have a tremendous legacy...but he went far beyond that beating bigger men who were suppose to beat him at 140 and 147.

Beating Cotto is a great win for PAC at any weight but sure.....a case could be made to say that if PAC faught Cotto at 147 it would mean a littel more for PAC! But why put PAC at even more of a disadvantage when he's been placing himself in that position to get to where he is today. He should be able to call "shots" to even up the playing field since he's put in the work to be #1. PAC is always going to be the smaller guy and giving Cotto a shot at his title (P4P#1) cotto should be the one making some sacrafices too.

Beating Floyd would be HUGE! Beating Shane would be HUGE. At any weight as well. At this point the catch weights are there for one reason. To even things out for a proven champion who put himeself at MANY disadvantages to be named the best at any weight. PAC doesn't need to fight at any particular weight to solidify his status in the game.....he's been there and done that.

At the end of the day PAC will get credit by the masses for beating Cotto at any weight brah. It's just the way it is. The catch weight issue is really not an issue. Cotto is a very good fighter and very dangerous. He's a true professional who will make the necessary adjustments to be @ 100% at whatever weight that is agreed on. And regarding your "no excues" comment. LOL This is boxing homeboy! There will alwys be excuses even if it's not coming from the fighters themselves.

IMO he fought oscar at 147, cuz oscar is at 154, he wants to fight cotto and 140 because he is best at 147. Now i'm not a hater, cuz i love pac and he is ruthless. i think he would fight either of them at their weight, but his camp, Arum included (even though he also promotes cotto) is looking to drain those fighters to in a way cheat them out of they're ability. They're "cherry picking" without actually "cherry picking" so on paper in wont look like, and wait for it..... "cherry picking"

If there is a catchweight it has to be 145, Cotto can't go any lower

Pac is at his best at 130 or 135! Sure he beat the linear champ at 140 and he beat DLH who at his best was a true WW, but that was PAC making the sacrafice and putting himself at a disadvantage in order to secure "legacy building" and Mega fights. What Arum and Roach are doing is "NOW" looking out for the interest of their guy who has already been placing himself at large disadvantages for years.

Someone in a thread earlier mentioned about letting this fight go ahead at 147 but no fighter can weigh more than 154 on fight night!!!

I think this would be ok to be honest and might satisfy both parties!!!

It is worth remembering that the Pac vs DLH fight was pretty much at a catch weight...as one went up from normal and one went down!!! Pac was never gonna go up to 154 to fight him!!!
