There seems to have been two different versions of reality when it comes to assessing the Heavyweight landscape right now: The Wilder reality and the Joshua reality. Which is correct? 1) The WBC is the premiere boxing organisation and conducts itself as such. Wilder's reign as champ has shown him to be an obvious #1 @ HW Wilder has been avoided by almost the entire HW division The #2 HW in the world right now is Luis Ortiz Whyte, Parker, Chisora, H.Fury, Miller and Povetkin are clearly levels below Wilder and actually boxing is not necessary to prove this. Wilder's commercial value is at or exceeds that of any other HW boxer. Dwyer is spot on with this one and hasn't gone mental 2) Joshua is 2 fights away from beating EVERY legit contender of his era. Ortiz will get smashed up if and when he fights a live body thus reducing Wilder's resume to used toilet paper. Which is closer to reality??? You decide!
Obviously option 2. Wilder isnt getting avoided by all the big heavyweights he is avoiding them. Joshua, Whyte, Parker, Wlad, Chagaev, Povetkin, ah hell the list goes on of people he could of fought or are offering him contracts. Wilder should of been picking up names on his resume from atleast his 20th fight. Hes got a couple of names in 40. And the WBC are the worst of the organisations too. Not just at heavyweight we see them fiddling with rankings and ignoring achievments to place the people they want placed above the deserved because it suits them and those who are bunging them money.
Option 3. Have you accepted Oleksandr Usyk as your Lord and Saviour? Salvation is coming, and this petty battle of posturing over percentages and faux offers between Joshua and Wilder won't stop it from shining a new light on the grim landscape that is the Heavyweight division.
This. Knew from the get go that Wilder wouldn't fight Joshua for anything less than 50-50 and that Hearn wouldn't match Joshua with Wilder until 2020. Hopefully both can stay unbeaten until then, but I doubt it.
Neither as well. I understand seeing either along with Fury as the best HW, but the idea that Luis Ortiz is the #2 fighter in the division or this era’s Sonny Liston is insane, as is claiming that Wilder is so bad that Whyte or Chisora would destroy him and Joshua doesn’t even need to bother with him. The only reasonable conclusion is what it’s always been- they best fighters in the division need to actually fight each other, and imo that hasn’t happened yet.
Option 35 All of this posturing is just moving the deckchairs on the Titanic. Every one of these fighters knows their goose will be well and truly cooked when Nathan Gorman polishes them off as if they were one of the many meat pies that sit on his plate. He will then sign numerous lucrative sponsorship deals and soon being balding and slightly pudgy looking will be the new measure of male attractiveness.
Obviously #2. Wilder is only barely ahead of Povetkin on my rankings, due to the Ortiz win. Ortiz is good and while I give Wilder credit for the W, Ortiz might take Wilder in a rematch. We have no idea how long Joshua will reign will be but he's the man right now. Beating Povetkin will further solidify his claim to the crown. Joshua's pattern of facing the best means there's a good chance he'll face Wilder/Fury/Pulev (depending on who is willing for what price) in 2019. If he wins all those fights he'll be ATG material, if not quite Tyson/Lewis/Klitschko just yet.
