^^Yep. Tyson allowed a scared fighter to get brave. Mike was looking sluggish and apparently had no problem with Douglas landing his shots at will.
If a sluggish Tyson could really nail & drop this version of Douglas And Holyfield put him away with one punch. Then Marciano has the potential to end it at any time with one punch. Rocky has handled smooth boxers like Moore, Charles & Walcott.
For Douglas...it was only one night of perfection...for The Rock...it was a whole career .....Marciano wins this...
marciano by ko, this version of tyson knocked down douglas, the supposedly"magic"version of douglas. tokio douglas is an stupid invention, douglas did look better than he was really, because tyson was very bad in this fight. marciano would ko ANY VERSION OF DOUGLAS AND THIS THREAD IS AN INSULT FOR ROCKY.
look at the way douglas nailed tyson and tyson was in his prime and also tyson is bigger faster and more powerful than marciano that is why as soon as marciano walks in and gets hit he is out:think
I would pick Douglas in this one either by decision of KO. I am not saying that Marciano couldn't win or anything like that, but I think the Tokyo Douglas would have been all wrong for Rocky.
I think Abdullah is correct. Tokyo Douglas would be all wrong for Rocky. Any big mobile HW would be tough for a fighter Marciano's size and reach. That's why I think men like Ali and Holmes would have to be favored as well. Granted Buster is no Ali or Holmes when his whole career is taken into perspective but that night in Tokyo Douglas was on. Part of the reason Tyson looked like crap that night is because Buster fought the right fight. Stick and move and don't let Mike get set..give him angles and pump the jab in his face all night. If he does that against Marciano he wins. Buster would have the luxury of landing from the outside while Rocky would have a considerable height and reach disadvantage not to mention speed disadvantage to overcome. An unmotivated and undertrained Douglas would be cannon fodder for Rocky but the Douglas that showed up that night in Tokyo would be trouble for Rocky...A lot of trouble.
Either him or 88 Tyson, or what about Montreal Duran? Actually i think the greatest could be Gavin Rees of the Souleymane M'Baye fight. Then again Conneticut Micky Ward begs to differ.
I'll pick "Big Bus" Douglas to get past Marciano in a time machine... Of course we are talkin' 1990 (Japan) Douglas versus 1952 or '53 Marciano... I see Douglas at 231 pounds and 6' 4" tall being too big, slick and technically good to get beat by 5' 10" tall and 187 pound Marciano... NOW! Douglas of 1990 out in Vegas at 246 jiggly pounds of jelly has ZERO chance at all..... MR.BILL
Part of the reason Tyson couldnt finish Douglas was that after the KD the bell rang. Also Douglas looked so good beacuse Tyson looked ****. This might hurt a few feelings but i feel Douglas is all wrong stylistically for Rock. I see a similar scenario to Tokyo 2bh, either that or Rock grinds him down for a late KO (after being behind on points)
