Okay, I've done the draw. Basically put a number next to every fighters' name, and then on a separate page, just randomly stuck two numbers together to face off against one another. This is the result:

    1. Jose Napoles vs. Vince Phillips
    2. Meldrick Taylor vs. Esteban DeJesus
    3. Aaron Pryor vs. Beau Jack
    4. Packey McFalrand vs. Julio Cesar Chavez

    5. Nicolino Locche vs. Tippy Larkin
    6. Duilio Loi vs. Ike Williams
    7. Antonio Cervantes vs. Jackie Kid Berg
    8. Tony Canzoneri vs. Ricky Hatton

    9. Barney Ross vs. Eddie Perkins
    10. Wilfred Benitez vs. Benny Leonard
    11. Billy Graham vs. Carlos Hernandez
    12. Jimmy McLarnin vs. Ted Kid Lewis

    13. Kostya Tszyu vs. Henry Armstrong
    14. Bruno Arcari vs. Kenny Lane
    15. Sammy Angott vs. Frankie Randall
    16. Carlos Ortiz vs. Joe Gans

The first two groups look more stacked than the other two to me, but there's some interesting match ups in all the groups.

    Second round will basically go:

    1 vs. 2
    3 vs. 4
    5 vs. 6
    7 vs. 8
    9 vs. 10
    11 vs. 12
    13 vs. 14
    15 vs. 16

I'll make individual threads for all the match ups, and leave the voting in each thread (to be done by written opinion, not by simply voting one way or the other on a poll) open for about 4 or 5 days.

So as not to spam the board too bad, I'll put up about 4 match ups per day in the first round.

At the end of the round when all the match ups have been voted upon, I'll start another thread declaring who all the winners are and stating who faces who in the second round.

    Let the tournament begin! :good

I heard Johnny Thomas once pulled that trick in a heavyweight tournament over at Boxrec, with Greg Page meeting Greg Page in the last 32....the winner of that fought Greg Page.

    Gold.

I didn't even have the excuse of a subconscious wish for Arcari or Canzoneri to win. Just plain old incompetence.

    13. Kostya Tszyu vs. Henry Armstrong

Henry would absolutely destroy Kostya. I don't even think It would go over 6 rounds.
    Armstrong KO6 Tzsyu

Pryor/Jack is the only one I'm having real difficulties with, otherwise my picks are mostly set, though there are a few difficult choices. I'll have to think on it.

Wait for the separate thread on it mate :good

I have a feeling Tszyu will get through for what it's worth. He has a small but loyal fan base. Most people probably won't even bother to vote for Henry thinking it's a done deal.

It's **** like that which sees a Ken Buchanan reach the final of a lightweight tournament.

I disagree. That was a good tournament because it wasn't seeded. I mean, the heavyweight one had Ali and Louis on separate sides of the draw- I wonder who's going to be in the final?

ps. A heavyweight one without those two would have been great.

It was a good tournament, but think about how many good lightweights there are in front of him. My mind boggles to think how he could reach the final two no matter how scrambled and random the draw was.

I don't remember who he had to beat to get there, but I remember being incredulous quite a few times and thinking **** off, people are just picking him either because they're British or to make things interesting for the sake of breaking up the boredom of predictable match ups.

Fair enough mate but he did have a difficult draw:

Last 32: beat Ken Buchanan, decision

Last 16: UD vs Banana Sam (Loads of dickheads from British forum showing their ignorance of the Banana Man obviously)

Last 8: TKO 11 vs Baby Jake Matlala

Last 4: KO 1 vs Filo Bedo (which was waaay far-fetched)

    Taylor - Dejesus very interesting
    Pryor - Jack sick matchup
Benitez - Leonard first guy to land a punch wins!
