He needs tough fighters who aren’t going to get knocked out easily. Let’s see him change up his offence and show a few different ideas. I’d like to see him in with a puncher, obviously not too big a puncher. But someone who is gona sting when he lands so Daniel can’t just steam forward. Let’s see him go for a points win a bit like Joshua v Ruiz 2, highly criticised but he showed different weapons in his arsenal, I’d be impressed if Dubois could stay behind the jab all night and navigate a solid points win. He needs to lose some weight / muscle mass also. He was absolutely blowing when throwing a combo or two.
Or how about you as someone who clearly does rate him have some input in how he rebuilds. How would you rebuild him Jurgen? Or do you just go straight back in for the rematch?
Going to be a long and hard rebuild to get DDD to the level many thought he would reach imo. If he'd have lost a close decision or been flattened by a stunning KO punch then he could tweak a few things and with experience climb back up , I think quitting as he did (when ahead imo) is a fundamental flaw you can't teach, you can't learn to have a bigger pair. I expect a couple of years of domestic knock overs until the next step up when he meets resistance again and folds under the pressure.
I don't think Dubois particularly enjoys boxing in the slightest. It seemed like Bowers was trying to coax him through the fight from pretty much after the first round. He seems a gentle soul, a man child who's been pushed into the sport by his dad from an early age, but with no passion for the sport whatsoever. He showed a lot of heart to go into the 10th, it seemed like he was hyperventilating from round 2. He's a powerful kid with good technique, but not everybody has the mentality to become a world class fighter.
Certainly no rematch as we seen with Big Dave Price, it could be extremely career limiting. Last night was a huge risk and jump in level of opponent which proved to be the wrong decision. I would go back to British level and win that title, then have 2-3 fights against opponents such as Hughie Fury/Charles Martin types then move on to 2-3 more durable/dangerous fights such as Pudding Chisora/Pudding Whyte//Ruiz Jnr then he should be ready to challenge. If he cannot come through those tests then he will never reach World Level.
Too much too soon. He is a young man who has not been managed properly. His team are more focused on building hype machine through highlight reel KO's against unknown fighters with padded records. He was open to the jab, he wasn't pacing himself, he didn't have a plan B and that's because he has never had those tests. Rebuild him against the likes of Kownacki, Helenius, Hammer and Takam before stepping up again. Positives from last night was that the fight was competative and close and Dubois showed a half decent chin, just question marks around his defence, heart and IQ for me. I believe he can come again but some big changes need to he made. Young kid with big talent for sure.
As others have said, a rematch is a horrible idea. He wasn't ready for Joyce, and he's very unlikely to be for the rematch, and two losses in a row could be pretty damaging for his future career. Sokolowski wouldn't be bad for his first fight back, then build up the level of compeition. Even his better opponents were unproven guys with no experience at the top level.
It's difficult because he's been with the same trainer. Alot of fighters will jump on him now, they see he's vulnerable. Gotta find someone who will improve his defence. I think his conditioning is a bigger worry. He's coming in heavier gradually in all his fights, and seems to have lost that speed when he fought under 17 stone. He doesn't seem to carry the weight very well.
Just my opinion of course but I don’t believe there’s any chance of anyone on that sort of level even for at least 3 fights
Warren is very good at building unbeaten records for his top prospects with limited risk of them being beaten only to throw them into big fights which they're ill prepared for. Under Warren, Dubois, will probably not fight another legitimate heavyweight contender for the next 18-24 months, which will likely lead to the exact same mistake when he tries to step up again. This is very different to the Price - Thompson fight, Dubois was ahead on the scorecards and only needed to stay on his feet to win the fight or at worse get a draw. It's also highly probable that he sustained the eye injury early in the fight and boxed a number of rounds in considerable pain, until he decided enough is enough. Boxing is a sport, not a fight to the death and with Dubois being only 23 years old he has the best years of his career ahead of him, the corner though should have made the decision for him a round or two before when it was obvious he was complaining to them and clearly out of sorts. Anyone accusing him of quitting should really go watch the Billy Collins - Luis Resto documentary or Cotto v Margarito 1 and you'll see where unnecessary bravery gets you. One punch from Joe Joyce has far more impact and is more damaging than anything Resto or Margarito could potentially land with padded gloves.
I don't know what people were watching to think Dubois was ahead on the cards. Had Joyce at least two up, it was pretty comfortable for him, just popping Daniel in the face non-stop. I was expecting to see a Dubois with a bit of head movement, subtlety and guile. A performance to suggest he would stop Johnson if he had another bite at that lumbering cherry. I didn't and he wouldn't. He's a million miles away from World level. Proper movement, defence and shot variety/selection are lamentable and need to be worked on urgently.
Joyce would have won the next few rounds with his jab, Dubois just didn`t throw enough punches, he looked completely confused in there.
