We learn to implement the low kick Anybody can punch but a good kick to the leg takes away the desire to come into punching range
Frankly because you're one of the few western countries who really is interested in kickboxing, most other countries fighters either become boxers or MMA fighters.
in the K1 MAX we also have extremmely good fighters such as Andy Sauer, Albert Kraus, Joeri Mes, Ray Starink enz.
We had a headstart. We had a small thaiboxing community in Amsterdam(with criminal ties and blood and guts matches) and they were the pioneers to go fighting in Thailand. By mixing the things they already knew with the things they picked up in Thailand, a Dutch style originated. Then when you are succesfull at something a sport becomes popular and now you can take up kickboxing in every little village. That we have big people here might help too.
It is also a case of a multi cultural enviroment. We have people from Surinam(south America) an Marokko(north africa) mixing with other dutchies and it dreated a very high level off competition. Duende, did you fight too ? if yes, where ? Mejiro, Chakuriki, Carbin or another gym ?
I only train kickboxing and have done boxing and judo. I did two matches on one night years ago but that was when I just started and the guys I fought were 10 kg heavier and trained 5 times a week. Needless to say I got my ass handed to me two times on the same night, but it was a good experience. I trained two times at Hoost former gym, and for 5 months at Kops where Team Aerts trains now. And you?
I trained in Utrecht when i was young at Celal Bozkurt's gym(nat. champ) Had myself 3 fights and went 2-1 with one ko Hoost trained at Vos Gym right ? I organise boxing shows in Krommenie now so if you want a ticket for a show sometimes let me know
