yep. especially fighters like marg or angulo who have good chins. id rather be knocked out in 4 then being beat up and humiliated for 12. its frustrating when your opponent just has your number and you cant find him with anything

The effects are, it can completely ruin a boxer's future career.
Look at Lucien Bute. After his beat down by Froch, he's ruined.

Angulo took two beatings in a row. One from Lara, followed by one from Canelo. I seriously doubt that Angulo will ever be the same.

is the question; is it better to get KOed quickly or take a sustained beating over 12 rounds?

the lesser of two evils is the quick ko. a beating over long period of time cannot only take years off of your career but also your life and quality of life

it's mostly the iron chin types that took the sustained beatings you're talking about that seem to suffer the worst effects later in life or their careers.
In that case, having a glass jaw isn't that bad.

Iron chin or glass jaw, it better to develop a defensive game, no matter how much some of the audience will hate you for it.
Personally, I'd want to have my brain in good condition (like Floyd Mayweather) so as I could count my own money and not be like Pacquiao needing someone else untrustworthy (Arum) to count it for me. :yep

    Brain damage

The brain swells. It happens to all fighters over 12 rounds...not just the ones who get beat down.

And it's worse for fighters with iron chins who don't respond how most normal people would to such big trauma's to the head. Most people get knocked out...They just take it...Why it's hard to watch Rios & Margarito fight. God damn.

Why I don't respect it when people say fighters have a glass jaw. Most people would have been knocked out cold by the punches some of these people have taken. Even the 'king of glass jaw' Khan.

Watch out for Froch Groves II. Punishment match.

the human body is not made for fighting. the damage that can be done in a fight like canelo/angulo can be life altering. i don't believe angulo will ever be the same after this. i thought he would give a better account of himself in this fight....but it's clear to me now that the lara fight took a lot out of him. if i was part of his team....i'd hold off on getting him in another fight for a minimum of 6 months. even then...i would not match him tough. he needs a break.

    It is made for fighting...evolution.

Just not this type of fighting. Where you have men who are highly trained to throw punches at the head wearing gloves. Without gloves fights would be stopped in a matter of rounds due to swelling, cutting & bruising.

    This is an interesting subject.

I don't think it is as simple as some make it out to be (defensive prowess). I'm one that believes that you either have it or you don't. Yes, of course you can learn how to defend, but most fighters, no matter how hard they train to be defensive wizards, will never be at the Mayweather caliber.

I would say history shows that most fighters will take beatings eventually, by somebody that has their number or by losing a step or two.

A lot of people say the Angulo and Marg types were punching bags; yes they were, but not by choice, they just weren't blessed with the natural gifts that are required for great defense.

That being said, taking a beating for 12 rounds will beyond a doubt change you as a person. I for one, hate to see it happen
