Regardless of who wins, Cotto or Margarito, I'm interested in your opinions about what it will do for - or rather against - their careers given the damage each man is likely to take throughout the fight. We loved Castillo-Corrales, for instance, but neither man was ever the same after that, in many ways they ruined each other. Given the ages I would think Margarito might suffer more bodily harm in the long run, but with the potential fights in front of Cotto it might actually do more damage to his career; a shorter peak which may lead to later losses. I think we could see a steep price for our gratification, the war which most likely will be waged in the ring. What do you guys think?
I think Cotto is going to get beaten up quite badly before he is knocked out by Margarito. Cotto doesn't have the greatest whiskers, but he is a tough, tough guy, and he may well hit the deck multiple times but keep getting up and taking more punishment before the fight is stopped in the late rounds.
They very well could ruin each other. Fighters have been ruined by one intense, hard battle before, numerous times. On the other hand, fighters have gone through many battles and come out of the game in tip-top shape.
Its better to go out in a blaze of glory than with a wimper. . . Castillo and Corrales will be remembered as long as there are boxing fans. Whos gonna remember a guy like. . . lets say Raheem or even Spinks? No one.
Cotto doesn't have any plans of turning this into a Corrales Castillo fight if he doesn't have to lol.
If Cotto fights smartly, he could come away victorious and not suffer too much damage. He's a very good boxer when he chooses and he's pretty damn fast.
Be careful that the "battle" won't live up to the hype and turn instead into some kind of a tactical fight (which Cotto would win). If Margo's one-dimensional attack scheme fails early on, as I expect, he will likely fall short of solutions. Cotto, on the other hand, brings a wider skill set in the ring and is capable of winning fights different ways. Expect a bit of everything but my take on this is, for most part, Cotto will keep the fight out of Margo's element and use his speed to his advantage, hence the physical damage wouldn't be significant.
Margarito's tall and lanky body isn't going to last long enough to drag this into deep waters. Cotto ends him on a body shot. --- After this devastating loss, Margarito will appear oblivious and demand on camera that Floyd finally step up and face him. His fans will agree wholeheartedly.
Yep. Margarito's fans will continue to insist he is feared and an elite boxer until he is brutally stopped. Cotto is here to provide the brutal stoppage.
Since when has AM ever been close to being stopped??? Even when he loses (PW) he still deliveres more punishment. You AM haters are idiots.
Margarito will have his macho granite chin put to the test and he will fail. Cotto will show that he is alot more tactical and technically sound then Margo. For those who actually think Margarito has more power then Cotto you are tripping. Cotto knock out percentage has come against much better opponents. Also at WW he is in my eyes alot stronger then any other boxer at this weight. I mean he over powered Gomez and Gomez was used to being hit by 160 pounders. The fight will not be as difficult as some may think Cotto will show that he is a level above Margarito. If this fight where made last year no one would have given Margarito a shot. Since he beat two bumbs now he is a great fighter. LOL
who knows but if this fight is close, and I expect it to be there would probably be a rematch. If these guys fight 2 or 3 times they will take alot out of eachother. I would expect it to affect Cotto worse as he is more dependent upon his speed
I see this fight going either the way of a big battle in which Cotto will win by KO or Margarito by KO. Or, it will be a technical fight in which Cotto wins due to superior skills and strategy. Because of Margarito's style and mentality, I see him as the brawler in this bout, wanting to come in and press the issue with Cotto. Thus, if Margarito is to prevail in this fight, he will probably get the victory via KO. However, Cotto has demonstrated in his last few fights (Judah, Mosley, and Gomez) that he can pummel you into submission or outbox you. Thus, Cotto can beat you many different ways. I see more avenues for a Cotto victory either via an early KO/TKO, late KO/TKO, or a unanimous points decision.
They could ruin each other, but I doubt that will happen. Both are very strong and sturdy men, those who get ruined all in one fight are usually more fragile men with weaker chins.
