Canelo has decent power, he's not featherfisted, but I do think it's very possible he can't get GGG's respect and it would spell doom for him. He'd have to clinch effectively, as he doesn't have good footspeed and movement.

Chavez Jr. gives his take on the fight. Obviously he fought Canelo and he's sparred GGG.

He said he thinks their power is like the same but GGG's is a lot more heavy and he felt his power more in sparring than he did Canelo's during their fight.

Lazy biased opinions are a-dime-a-dozen, but go on.

I think this is the crux of Canelo's strategy for the fight. Someone else in thread also mentioned some good points on this same issue (Canelo strategy, GGG physical state).

I think Golovkin's endurance is not what it used to be. It's still really good, but not quite at the same level. He can't fight full 3-minute rounds any more, IMO. And when GGG 'fades' in a round, that is when the opponent can make a surge and steal a round. I saw Jacobs do this in his GGG bout. And I'm sure Golden Boy saw it, also.

    So, Canelo's strategy is likely:

---> Bulk up as much as possible to increase punch resistance
---> Do everything you can to go the distance in the fight
---> Look to steal rounds (favorable Canelo judges) and surge when GGG has to rest within rounds

Two years ago, this fight is a wipe-out. But now there is a chance for Canelo. It might not be a great chance, but with the judges almost certainly going heavily for him (see Cotto and other fights), he could win almost by default if he makes the final bell.

Obviously, GGG knows this, too. Certainly he will be looking for the stoppage. But that is where the added bulk of Canelo could help him survive the onslaught, as it helped Jacobs survive.

Pressure fighters (rather than just power punchers) can hit the end of their careers faster than other fighters do, because it takes a lot of physical talent to fight in that style.

For comparison's sake, Hagler was 32 years old (nearly 33) in his final fight against Sugar Ray Leonard. GGG is 35 years old.

GGG has had a great run and can still beat most of his foes. But the combination of Canelo's significant bulk and Canelo's judges could prove to be a real obstacle next Saturday.

If I were training Canelo I would want him to come in on fight night a minimum of 175 pounds and probably more towards 180 or 180+ if I could get it.

One thing Jacobs had that Canelo does not, however, is real movement. Canelo cannot move like Jacobs does, and that means he'll be in more danger than Jacobs was.

I think he punches hard enough to get Gs respect.

lol now Hugo Centuro Jr. is saying that Canelo hits harder and he sparred Canelo years ago when he was at 154 and has been up in Big Bear sparring GGG just the other day.
