You might be. Boxing Digest is, imo, the WORST of the boxing magazines. They've run quite a few articles that had nothing to do with boxing - like articles on UFC, and even one on some rapper! atsch They are absolute slaves to the alphabets - unlike The Ring or the other boxing mags.

On the positive side, they do have the old "agate type" section of fight reports that used to be in The Ring until Stanley Weston bought it, with lots of reports on obscure fights you wouldn't otherwise hear about.

 

I still pick up a copy of The Ring from time to time. I like to have them out for people to read when I have my fight parties.

 

I think you might be overstating it when you say they are slaves to the alphabets, but I do agree with your comments on the articles about MMA other non-boxing topics. And they ticked me off when they discontinued their Ring Card Girl of the Month feature. (World Boxing used to have that feature, also, and they discontinued it before they folded.)

Another thing about BD that I like is that they will do some nice features on lesser known boxers, such as Kendall Holt and Steve Cunningham. Plus, it's about half the cost of the ring.

 

Well, maybe "slaves to the alphabets" is overstating it - but not by much. Let's just say that they take a rather uncritical view of sanctioning body shenanigans! :yep

And they do do some interesting features. One thing that is noticeably worse - and probably accounts in part for the lower cost, btw - is the quality of writing. Ring and Boxing Monthly give you much higher quality in-depth journalism, but you do pay for it.

But I'm an old school boxing fanatic - I subscribe to ALL of 'em.:yep Used to get like 4 or 5 boxing mags a month. With KO and the others gone, that's reduced - but it's the wave of the future. Wouldn't be surprised if BD - which is the old Boxing Illustrated - folded eventually.
