there were a lot of situations in that fight where if it were kelly pavlik and not brinkley there would be more than just marks under his eyes. the way lucian leaves his hands below his waist coupled with him having to get in close to throw that beaut of an uppercut he throws means he will be exposed to what kelly does best. one punch can change everything and bute will be exposed to that one punch. whether kelly can pull the trigger or not...the opportunity will be there.

having said that...there were things kelly was doing in the martinez fight that if bute were in there and not martinez, the fight may not have made it to the cards.

If you HONESTLY think Bute will fight Pavlik the same way he fought Brinkley, your fooling yourself.

Bute was toying with Brinkley, because he knows the guy's a bum with nothing to offer, and no firepower to hurt him with. Its called fighting to the level of your opposition. Hell DLH was busted up, and had a bloody nose against Gatti, because he traded with Gatti. Why? Because he knew Gatti couldnt hurt him. You think he woulda been dumb enough to employ that same stategy when he fought Tito? Hell no!

You HONESTLY think Bute's gonna drop his hands, and throw so carelessly against a world class fighter who can punch like Kelly, with such little regard for defense? C'monn.... you cant be serious. Bute isnt a ******.

Bute will bring his A game for Pavlik, and will pay much more attention to keeping his D tight, and using angles, and walking Kelly into those straight lefts, and deadly uppercuts of his. It will NOT be the same Bute that fought Brinkley.

that's the way bute fights. in all the fights i've watched he drops his hands. for the most part he's quick enough to get away with it. but he will have to be in close enough to kelly to land his uppercut and there will be times when he will be exposed. that doesnt mean kelly will be able to react fast enough to take advantage of it.

i'm not fooling myself and i am serious. and no bute isnt a ****** but that is the way he fights. i'm sure he will bring his a game against kelly and i don't think kelly will win but he will have an opportunity to land something big on lucian.

This I can agree with. Just even if he does land, its no guarantee it'll be enough. Pavlik hasnt shown devestating power in 3 years. Thats not to say he cant punch, cause he can, but he's not the type of guy that can really end a fight with one punch. If he was, Martinez woulda been gone, cause he landed several clean shots on Serg in the middle rounds.

In the end the question is how much of each other medicine they can take?

This is quite correct. Should we judge Ward being sort of vulnerable in a ring because he allowed a limited fighter with power to last all 12 rounds ?

One fight is exactly that...one fight !!

I like Pavlik but lets face it, he only fights one way, that's straight forward at the same rythmn for 12 rounds. You give him angles and he starts looking lost.

Can he beat Bute ? He sure can but the chances are slim because of the styles matchup.

Not that I think Bute won't beat pavlik, which I think he would... But Bute and Martinez are nothing a like in terms of style.. Don't confuse the southpaw style with a boxers overall Style.... Noob

Pavlik could beat Bute, he has the jab and boxing skills to control the fight, and the power to end it. He's had trouble with mobility and handspeed, so far. Bute isn't as mobile or fast as Martinez, and he's simply put, no Hopkins.

I've seen every one of Pavlik's fights, and I've seen about half a dozen Bute fights.

An extremely sharp, focused and determined, Pavlik has the tools to beat Bute. He could beat Bute mostly on the strength of his 3-2, and his basic double jab/right hand. Apply steady pressure behind the jab (we know Pavlik can do that.) Get Bute thinking about the jab/right hand, and then throw the 3-2. Get him worried about the 3-2, and throw the jab/right hand. Mix in some body shots, and keep the pressure on.

The major, and I mean MAJOR, problem is that KP has leaky defense, and Bute has a truly uncanny ability to place that left uppercut exactly where he wants it. If Zuniga and Andrade could not handle that uppercut, I'm convinced not many guys could.

Im gonna say this , for all these people saying " why would Pavlik take such a fight " , " are Pavliks management ******ed " etc etc etc , fact is , if Pavlik takes this fight , then there can be **** all but respect for the guy , 18 months ago he was seen as invincable , now he's not relevant  , so somewhere in between lies the real Pavlik .

Do i think Kelly beats Bute ??? doubtfull , do i think Bute beats him worse than Martinez and Hopkins ??? NO , therefore should be a decent fight .

Boo, the best thing that could happen for you on here is for Bute to retire Pav.

You were a decent poster up until Pav exposed Miranda.

Since that time, there's been more **** in your posts than in the sewers of Youngstown.

When the madness ends, and you abandon the topic, maybe sanity will return.

I hate to see Bute stop Pavlik, but I think he will. Bute is the best 168b lb. fighter in the world today. He is just too fast, to powerful of a puncher for Pavlik. Bute would stop Ward as well, he is the best.

Pavlik's career has ended a long time ago.
