The entire HBO B.A.D. broadcast team sucks and Bob Papa is boring.

I've never liked Max Kellerman and despite showing some improvement in the last year, Lennox is horrible. But I've realized the worst one on the team is actually Bob Papa.

Why? Imagine Jim Lampley commentating the Williams-Quintana match tonight. Or even imagine someone like Joe Tessitore in his place. The fight would be twice as exciting to the average boxing fan and five times more exciting to the average HBO viewer. Bob Papa never gets excited, no matter what happens. When things heat up in the ring, his voice doesn't get any more enthusiastic and he reacts like he's commentating a golf tournament. He speaks slowly, always sounds like he's reading off of a paper and not improvising his speech, and asks boring questions.

What makes someone like Lampley so great is that he adds to the drama of an already dramatic fight. Bob Papa does the opposite. He balances the excitement of a high action fight with a boring delivery and blow-by-blow. Fran Charles wasn't anything amazing, but he was a lot better than Papa on the B.A.D. team.

I don't even think this is an opinion, it's fact. :D I've had friends/family over on nights where a fight was exciting, but Bob Papa was commentating and nights where a fight was a little less exciting, but Jim Lampley was commentating. People were entertained and got into the fight a lot more when Lampley did the blow-by-blow. I've got no problem with him as a person, I just think he would be a better commentator for a sport like bowling. Does anyone agree or have a similar experience with friends watching?

just look at morales barrera round 5......an amazing....AMAZING....round, and he made it actually feel like it was something to take in and love. I still to this day will neer forget it, and it might be because of him.

Hate to say it, but Kellerman was the team's saving grace.

Lummox is horrible. Absolutely horrible. Papa can at least strive for mediocrity but there is no redeeming quality for Lennox's "expert" commentary. Keep Jones Jr., or bring in Kevin Kelly.

The entire Boxing After Dark telecast from the Pechanga Resort and Casino turned to be just a BAD night for Williams and most betters, me included...I'm stunned, that's all.

Jones is the best HBO had by a mile, always calls a fight correctly in my view, has a great insight into boxing

Agree. Lennox has always been a terrible commentator. Roy Jones was excellent in the mid-90s and should retire immediately and work for HBO full-time. Don't care for Kevin Kelley though.

I couldn't never understand the love for Bob Papa and the hate for Steve Albert on Showtime. Papa always bored me, and Albert is one of my favorites.

Bernstien is the best, with Alex Wallau (sp?) a close second. Too bad Wallau gave it up to be the big boss because he was really something special.

Wallau was a very knowledgeable commentator, but he also allowed his bias to enter in a lot. A prime example was his hyperbole during Toney/Tiberi.

Lennox is like a robot on tv... awful. Riddick Bowe might even be better.
