Cheers SL, it was such an interesting era with some quality fighters. I was gonna include Tate as well but it worked better with those 6, all born within a year of each other, all won a title & all ****ed things up I liked Snipes, Bonecrusher & Coetzee, the only one I could never stand is Berbick. Dunno why but I always thought he was a twat, shame that he died the way he did though. He was the antithesis of a proper 80's fighter. A hard-working guy who turned up in great shape & maximised his talent.
Excellent posts about the wasted generation. Perhaps the prototype was 'Big Bad' LeRoy Jones who lost in a title bid to Holmes and pretty much disappeared afterwards (probably took up residency in Dunkin' Donuts).
Tru, he was the first to do it aswell, wasn't he? I never really enjoyed watching Berbick, myself. Not much substance IMO, tried to be a bit too flashy and never really seemed to put a graft in the ring. Talented though. :good
He got a detached retina, didn't he? Or was that another Holmes victim? I wrote about it in my Holmes piece, but I've forgot now bigladsftw.
Yeah, actually I think that Jones did have an eye injury. He had plenty of talent but was hopelessly lazy. Holmes was pretty good with the thumb. He gave no ****s.
Cheers mate :good I know very little about LeRoy Jones but he certainly fit the template ie: talented **** up :yep All this talk of the 80s make me want to watch Scarface
<B><FONT size=4>Edwin "El Inca" Valero atsch I just tried editing the post & my laptop ****ed up & deleted all of that post apart from that ^
Well that one isn't making me feel bad for lack of activity ;-) Nice work, as always. Seen the vids before of course, but nice write-up :good Will be enjoyed by many I imagine, he has quite the reputation and understandably so. Taking my laptop in on Friday :deal So within a few weeks I can get a few done and make up for you smashing me out of the park as of late, really good input mate :bowdown
Cheers Flea, that wasnt done as a wind up. No sparring tales & no gifs :good I started that ages ago but it needed finishing, he died 2 years ago tomorrow I still like him as a fighter but its hard to watch his best performance against DeMarco with his wife & kids ringside :-(
Sometimes an absolute psycho happens to get famous first. It happens. Edwin Valero was an extremely dangerous man. The Chavez tattoo shows how mental he was. He was a pure fighter through and through, sherdog because he was an animal. And of course it wasn't a wind-up! I'm only pulling your leg, you should make it more comprehensive and add the sparring legends, there's little to go on with him so every little counts IMO :thumbsup
Shite! Valero is gone, sorry you wasted your time Mo :good I was coming back to reaffirm my position on the lost generation of heavys piece, it was class :good I guess Weaver needs one now :yep
Cheers Flea:good About half of it (Valero) is saved on the laptop, it wasnt that good imo & needed a bit more research. I'll get round to it soonish Ike Quartey nexx :bbb
Nice, I look forward to that, maybe I should give Forrest a go then :good We should get De La Hoya, Vargas, Winky and some more of the 90s crew in, a bit more mainstream, I'm game if you are :good
