Apparently the Spanish-speaking broadcast for tonight's card has Miguel Cotto joining regular 'expert' Juan Manuel Marquez. Sounds pretty cool. If I knew what they were saying, that is.
I vaguely remember seeing Ugas on some undercard and wasn't impressed. looks promising so far though.
Ugas looking decent. Very poised. Good straight punches and diversifying his attack. Good jab to the body.
Ugas looking comfortable but just looking a little one paced and too relaxed. Needs to step on the gas in the next couple of rounds. I like his calmness though.
Two weakness already in Ugas. Slow feet and has a tendency to put the earmuffs on when the opponent throws combos at him. He's just walking forward at times and holding his feet against a better opponent that could be exploited. It's a shutout so far though. Very comfortably for Ugas. Just walking to his opponent. Blocking the incoming and unleashing his offense. Needs to got to the body more. That's where the stoppage could come for him. Break this Almaraz down downstairs.
My ESPN cut out from mid way through the 3rd and is continuing to do so sporadically. Ugas is looking a bit more composed than he's been when I've seen him before, he's not really rushing anything like he did previously, he's keeping his jab busy and picking his moments with the right hand. Could well do with punching with Almarez though, who tends to get a bit lackadaisical with his jab and as a consequence potentially leaving himself vulnerable to a right hand over the top.
Ugas just starting to run out of ideas. The 6th was probabibly Almaraz' best round but he still didn't win it. Ugas not turning his shoulders and just taking everything on the arms. Not a good look for the future. His feet are really ponderous.
Almaraz is a tough kid. Getting caught with some big power punches at the end of the 7th. Right hand leads over the top and a big left uppercut. Stood up to everything.
