Martin struggling with the fact that Kennedy is both A) somewhere close to him in terms of size and B) is being relatively intelligent in the way in which he goes about his work. Martin hates being hit to the body and being jabbed at while being closed down, both of which Kennedy is utilising thus far. He did better in the 2nd, but he's not looking comfortable.
Third round. Martin starts well with his jab. But about the second minute mark. Kennedy backs him up on the ropes and doubles up the left up. Which he continueously catches Martin with in the rest of the round. Kennedy round. Close and very competitive so far. Good fight. 2-1 Kennedy.
Just how poor and inexperienced(he still is really, though has somewhat improved and is continuing to do so) Chris Avalos was when Martin beat him cannot be overstated by the way. Not to be harsh on Chris, seeing as it was a win that catapulted him into some noteriety and is still his biggest moment. But Avalos was young, naive, and completely raw. He was only used to taking on stationary guys who allowed him to batter them, putting him in with Martin was a horrific decision, literally the worst feasible match-up that could've been made for him at the time.
Man this is a good fight. They trade in the 4th. Martin getting the best of it. Kennedy is struggling with shots that come from outside the line of his sight. Martin needs to keep it in center ring and keep Kennedy honest. 2-2
This is beginning to really heat up. Martin's being forced to stand his ground a bit more but he's still being judicious, littles side-steps to take Kennedy off balance before he comes with his own attacks. Kennedy still as relentless as always, really fun fight.
5th is another good round. very close. Kennedy starts well but then fades. Martin is a sucher for the left hook. But he comes back and catches Kennedy with right uppercuts and turns him on the ropes. Very Close but Martin edged for me. Could've gone either way that one. 3-2 Martin.
Martin has is way in centre ring. But then voluntarily traps himself on the ropes when he gets tired. His feet are his only defence. They keep trading in the 6th. But Kennedy falling into the habit of just walking forward without a setup and getting caught. He's also leading with too many hooks. Another Martin round. 4-2 Martin.
Neither are inside fighters. Both standing still looking around waiting for the ref to do something anytime they end up in there. Kennedy likes it at close range but he still needs room to punch, doesn't like getting up on his mans chest.
Slower 7th round. Both getting a little tired. Change of tactics as Kennedy is the one now trying to fight on the backfoot. Not much meaningful landed compared to the other rounds. But Kennedy controlled the pace a little and his jab was more effective. Kennedy round. Kennedy gets warned the second time for a low blow and slips which looked like but wasn't a KD. 4-3 Martin.
8th round. Good round for Kennedy. He has the better varity and better body work. More judge friendly punches. Martin's feet are slowing down. He holding them far too much now and getting caught on the inside. More effective work from Kennedy in that round. 4-4
Really good fight. Plenty of momentum shifts during the rounds too. Kennedy shoe-shining with arm punches to the gloves before Martin comes back and picks off some uppercuts and counter left hooks, whipping in some shots behind the elbows. Then Teon comes back and overwhelms Chris a bit with some quality work that has a little bit more on it, coming up the middle as well as around the side. Difficult to score.
Gave the 9th to Kennedy. It's turning to his type of fight and he's getting the better of the inside work. Doing well doubling up his left hooks and he can't miss. I have Kennedy 1 up going into the 10th and final. 5-4 Kennedy.
What a final round! Kennedy started off wasting his ammo. Just arm punching. Martin takes over and is winning the round before he once again traps himself on the ropes and gets nailed with left hook after left hook. He looked to even be slightly buzzed on the ropes. The toughest round to score. I think i would rather be Kennedy in that round though. Martin gave away that round. I have Kennedy winning 6 rounds to 4. Very close fight. I wouldn't argue with a draw. Tough to score.
